My father's aunt Caroline Crundwell married Lam Alphone Auguste de Bussy St Romaine. They had a large family here in New Zealand. The youngest son Adrian became a well known jazz and dance band musician/ leader playing the saxophone, clarinet etc. In the early 1930s, when he was known as Abe Romain, he was in the UK where he played in Jack Hyltons Orchestra. Just before WWII he moved to Australia with his family and for many years led the orchestra at Sydney's Trocaderro nightclub.
He made many recordings which are now hard to locate- as a long time jazz fan, I would love to find copies of some of his records and also some information on where he lived etc.
Any help out there in cyberspace?
Also anyone have any background on Lam before his marriage to Caroline? - born in Mauritius.

Thank you for that. I had googled and found the photo of him with the Trocaderro Orchestra. In addition I googled Jack Hylton and found more photos of Abe with the Orchestra including one with Louis Armstrong. Thanks for the recording listing this is most interesting.
Also found details of his departure from the UK on findmypast...

Thanks for your message relating to Abe Romain who was my father's cousin
lAbe spent most of his life outside of New Zealand, initially in Sydney, then in the UK and in 1938 back to Sydney where he lived and worked up to the time of his death.
I would like to help as much as I am able
Regards
Don Lindale
