Post by: octavia60 on Monday 10 March 08 20:44 GMT (UK)
I wonder if anyone could suppy  names & locations for orphanages in Swindon  which would have existed around 1889-1900.   Many thanks in anticipation.... :)

Hi Octavia,

Have a look at this;
http://www.institutions.org.uk/workhouses/england/wilts/highworth_workhouse.htm.

Until the Stratton St. Margaret Workhouse was finally demolished around 10-15 years ago, it was a hospital for the elderly. It was situated adjacent to the Stratton Fire Station on the eastern side of the town.

Hope that's of help.

Hello Octavia

Someone did do a bit of enquiring about an address in Stratton St Margaret last year.

Don't know if this will help you, it's about the tenth message on the thread.
