I have a Francis Josiah Moreton who married my relative Cordelia Davies in Corwen in 1896.In the 1901 Census in Cefn Mawr he is given as born in Penygraig Denbighshire in c 1876.This is somewhere new to me!Has anyone any idea where this place was?

I don't think that's quite in the correct area, Percy ;D

I note a different spelling in at least one area
Pen-y-Graig don't know if that makes a difference
-
In Denbigh itself, there is a street called Penygraig. It may be that it is from waht the old area used to be called.

Many thanks for the further replies,and whilst I always keep an open mind,I feel it could very well be in the Corwen area.

Hi William :)
The Graig area which I referred to is/was in the Corwen RD - Llangollen parish. just south of Dolywern, if my memory serves me correctly - I had school friends from there.
If you've lived in that area - as you and I have done - it makes sense!
Denbigh and Glamorgan ::) ::) ::)

William
there is a rather suspicious looking entry for a "Hosea" Moreton age 14 in Cefn Mawr 1891 census

-
Thanks Heather,and it may be the same one?

Apart from Graig - opposite Dolywern/Pontfadog, there's a Tan y graig just on the top between Glyndyfrdwy and Glyn. So there could be more than one 'Head of the Rock' in that area.
