Title: CHARTERS of Steeple Morden
Post by: tempsford on Saturday 08 March 08 15:10 GMT (UK)
Hi,
I am looking for anyone with Bennet Charter and Sarah Wiggs in their tree.
They were married in Steeple Morden 16 Jan 1819. They had 11 children.
Also any descendants of Bennet and Sarahs son William Charter he married Esther Desborough on 29 Oct 1842 in Litlington and they moved to St Andrews the Less area of Cambridge about 1850.
Thanks.
Tempsford.

Hi,
Were your Joseph Bennett Charter's parents Samuel Charter and Rachel Chapman. If so then Samuel was Bennet and Sarah's son born in Steeple Morden in 1835.

Hi Tempsford
I have just seen your query about the Charters from 2009. I have two lines of Charters via two  of John Charter and Mary Birds sons William (Bird)  Charter b 1769 (pre marriage of 1770 but acknowledged by John as "reputed" son) and John  b1778.
Bennett Charter b1799 was of course the son of William(Bird) Charter and  Ann Bennett. However as yet I have not been able to discover where Sarah Wiggs was born. It is described as foreign parts in the census . Her father was I think William from "Little Madden" who served in the  99th 6th and 100th Regiment of Foot (maybe as a baker) and was injured at Chippewa in 1814. His attestation papers are on FindMyPast. I wonder if you have any more details about Sarah or her mother. ? Irish as William sailed from there to the Americas.

Regards
