I hope this isnt a dumb question ::) :-[
How do I use pigots information? There is a transcribed Pigots index online which is in the area I'm looking at and has some names on it I'm researching but how do I link them to people I have in my tree already??
And aside from this one index I've found online, would I need to get CD roms to find out more from other areas?
I just dont really know how to use it! :-[ :-[

Do you mean Pigot's Directories?

Pigots and other directories are only really useful for adding extra information about people who are already in your tree. The early ones only give the main business people and gentry in an area. By the middle of the twentieth century they provided full street directories but even then only contained the head of the household.
It is worth noting the occurences of your surnames from them particularly for uncommon surnames, but you will need to use other sources like BMD, parish registers and census entries to match them into your family.
Once you have found a family member running a business you can use the directories over the years to find out what happened to that business which then leads on to other sources like the London Gazette to discover how it disappeared.
