Welcome to Rootschat but civil registration of births in Ireland began in 1864 which is why there will be no birth certificate for Richard Norris born 1776 or thereabouts. For pre-1864 births you need to search for church records (if they exist) and to do so you need to know the family's religion and where they lived. 'Cork' can refer to the city or the parish and you can't assume all people named Norris from 'Cork' are related to each other.

Thanks for that :)
I do believe Richard was Catholic but the Australian convict records don't really give an address, sometimes it is just where they were tried or where they departed from.
He died a convict (sentenced twice, once transported; second domestically) so I doubt the death record if it exists as any more info on his birthplace, sadly.

Hi Kelmark
I too am looking for information on Richard Norris who was sent to Australia, arriving in 1800 and married Mary Williams. Some information I received is that he came from Tipperary but haven't checked into that yet. What connection of Richard are you. Mine is his son John.
Regards
pippy
