The reason i ask is because i live in the north of England and among some directories on a film there is mention of (Baptisms of the Congregation of Killyleigh,Ireland, 1835 1881.I haven't had chance to look at it yet.So i not sure what form it is in but book i should imagine ::),is this available to anyone on here?

I believe there are a compilation of the records of the Rev. Andrew Breakey. The records do not specify which church, but they were kept by Rev. Andrew Breakey, who was minister in the First Presbyterian Church, Killyleagh County Down from 1825.
They are probably microfilmed, and to be honest if you do get a chance to look at them, I have a few lookup requests for you.

Hi Otto
I have never seen Irish records before,i was wondering why they are where they are ;D I was also wondering if anyone had access to these Baptisms if anyone asked for a lookup. If they are on microfilm they will be in a archive or library i presume,Anyway give me the names or whatever you have to give me,then if find they are proper records.I might find find something :)

I was thinking ::) If the records are readable and i can transcribe them (over time) would it be of any use to anyone on the Irish board to hold the transcriptions. If the records are to far away for people to visit to view them.Just a thought ;D

Hi celia,
The records are probably in Northern Ireland somewhere, But your post caught my eye as I have an ancestor on my wife's side who was married there.
The details i will send by PM if you could do a look up for me that would be great.
The records are in England, probably because someone there had ancestors in Killyleagh, and they were able to get a copy of the Killyleagh records.
Thx

Hi Celia,
Are these records in your local Family History Centre? I wonder if they were ordered by a family living in your neighbourhood so that they could check on their Co. Down ancestors. Click here (http://www.hydeparkfhc.org/cgi-bin/catalog.exe?country=Ireland&county=Down&type=parish&page=18) for a list of microfilmed records held by the FHC at Hyde Park.

Hi Christopher
yes i have seen the holdings of the F.H.C.because i wanted to know if members using the Irish board could ask for lookups in this church. If anyone could do look ups i wasn't going to mention it, i didn't find anyone that could,so i did ;D As to the whys and wherefores. Of the reason it is on film i don't know.(I have never been to a F.H.C.) I am just offering a look up :) As its a bit off topic i will P.M. later.

Dear Celia
I am a novice at tracing my ancestors, but i was wondering if you had any info on my Gt.Grandmother Isabella Craney. She was from Co.Down and I know she married my Gt Grandfather Daniel Gilbride in 1875 in Killyleagh R.C.Church. I am trying to find her mother and fathers names.
Any info would be much appreciated.
Best Regards

Hello Celia, I wonder if you could look at the baptisms in Killyleagh for me. Children of Robert McCormick and Esther Shaw (if any). Many thanks, RosemaryJoan

Isabel
As the Irish board isn't my home board, i don't know anything about Irish research. As Otto said and i found, the church is Presbyterian. So if the R.C stands for Roman Catholic your G.Grandmother wont be there.Christopher will probably give you some advice if they were.

As I have said above the church is Presbyterian
is that right for your ancestors. The start year for when any children might have been baptized, would be handy to know so i find them quicker ;).would they have been married in the same church/or do you have that?

If you order the marriage certificate from GRONI in Belfast, the details of her father and other info should be on it also.

Sorry Celia, thought you had Church of Ireland. I already have the Presbyterian records for my family. Thanks again. RosemaryJoan

Hello Celia, in reply to your query about someone holding the records if you transcribed them.
I'm sure Ros Davies would love to have them. She has a wonderful website devoted to Co. Down & welcomes all information relevant to the County. Here's a link to her site with her e-mail near the top right. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~rosdavies/PHOTOSwords/KillyleaghAll.htm
If for some reason Ros cannot help, contact me & I'll see what I can do. Regards, TonyR.

Hi Celia,
Are you still taking requests for baptism/marriage info from the First Presbyterian Church in Killyleagh? The Irish side of my family came from this area and I believe many of them were Presbyterians.
If you can help, I would be interested in any information regarding any or all of the following individuals:
William Gilmore (born 1836)
Joseph Gilmore (father of William)
_____ Gilmore (mother of William)
Margaret McDowell (born 1842)
Robert McDowell (father of Margaret)
_____ McDowell (mother of Margaret)
Many thanks in advance for any help you can provide!
-

Hi Celia,
Thanks very much for your efforts! But, alas, I don't think the records you found have any relation to the relatives I'm searching for. No need to look at later dates. I'm pretty sure what I'm looking for took place in the late 1830s-early 1840s.
Not sure what you meant when you said that you didn't want to offend, but be assured I have taken no offense at anything and just really appreciate all your efforts and willingness to help me!
Any ideas where to look for further info on the Gilmores/McDowells would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
BTW...couldn't figure out how to respond directly to the e-mail you sent, so I posted my reply here. Cheers!

Actually the mail i sent is called a P.M ;D A P.M is for the exchange of emails so that things can be sent direct. That you cant send, on say, a look up board. They are not really for the use of replying to a topic,it messes the info up, so you did right ;D
Any ideas where to look for further info on the Gilmores/McDowells would be greatly appreciated
.
If you are looking for the above in Ireland, you need to start a new topic of your own.On The Ireland (general board) if you don't know the county.
Happy hunting Celia

Welcome to Rootschat Willson. There are loads of Gilmores/Gilmour in County Down so it might be difficult to find the right family but have a look here to see if there's anything useful:

Thanks aghadowey,
I visited that page the other day and got some very useful info. They had the marriage date for my gg grandfather and gg grandmother (William Gilmore and Margaret Gerch McDowell, m. 26 Dec 1862) as well as the birthday of my great grandmother (Pendelina Gilmore, b.30 Jun 1868). So got some great stuff there and it got me started with that side of my family. But now I need to take the next step and I'm kind of at a loss...

Hello Celia, if you are still offering look-ups, could you check the following for me please?
I have my Johnston family in England from 1891 onwards & the 1911 census lists that they had another 5 children I was not aware of. These 5 must have all died back in Ireland as they are not in the family grave over here. As one of the surviving children was baptised at 2nd Presbyterian in Killyleagh, it’s just possible that some of the others may also have been baptised there. Here are the details:
Parents – James Johnston & Mary Smyth (married in Killinchy Presbyterian 1879)
Surviving children –
William Johnston born 25 April 1880 High Street, Comber - baptism not found
Bella Johnston born 1 February 1883 Ballymorran - baptism not found
James Johnston born 1 May 1885 Tullycore - baptism not found
Samuel John Johnston born 31 May 1889 Ballygeegan - Baptised 4th August 1889 in Killyleagh
From Birth Indexes – these are the only potential births that I can find which have corresponding death entries and which ‘fit’ in-between the known births.
Birth Jan-Feb-Mar 1882 Elizabeth Johnston (death Apr-May-Jun 1882 age 0)
Birth Apr-May-Jun 1886 Sarah Jane Johnston (death Apr-May-Jun 1887 age 1)
Birth Apr-May-Jun 1887 Andrew Johnston (death Oct-Nov-Dec 1888 age 1)
Birth Apr-May-Jun 1888 Elizabeth Johnston (death Apr-May-Jun 1888 age 0)
Birth Apr-May-Jun 1888 Mary Johnston (death Jul-Aug-Sep 1888 age 0)
Birth Jul-Aug-Sep 1888 Joseph Johnston (death Jul-Aug-Sep 1888 age 0)
Birth Jan-Feb-Mar 1890 John Johnston (death Jan-Feb-Mar 1890 age 0)
Obviously not all the above births are the children of James Johnston & Mary Smyth, but hopefully one or more might be. So anything you can find will be gratefully accepted. Particularly interested in families address & James senior’s occupation, if it is recorded. I suppose it’s also possible that Bella & James junior may have been baptised in Killyleagh as well, but probably too much to hope for. Regards, TonyR.

Married in Crossgar RC Church. Daniel residing in Lisburn. One of the witnesses was maybe her sister Mary Craney. Maybe someone can make out the townland residence of Isabella?

Added: Note Daniel Killbride
