Does anyone have a Mary Bools born about 1813 in their tree?
She married John Barber in 1838 and James Perrin in 1854. On her first marriage certificate her fathers name is given as Mary and on her second it is given as William.
On the census' she gives her place of birth as Little Hale. I have found a number of children for a William Booles and Mary registered in Great and Little Hale but no Mary.
Regards

I came across a mother's name given at a marriage a few weeks ago and sure enough there was a baptism to confirm the illegitimate birth.
The Spalding spreadsheet from here http://s10.freefronthost.com/mi/index.html also has the name Mary for "father", so this must be what was in the register I think - not just a dodgy transcription in the version that was sent to the GRO.
Potential mothers could well be the Mary BOOLS/BOWLES bap in Gt Hale 1790/91
Someone of that name married William WINTER at Great Hale in 1820.

Thanks Geoff I will look into it.
There is a William and Mary Bools listed on 1841 census but I am not convinced that they are my Mary's parents because of the marriage certificate.

Mary Bools was my Great Great Grandmother
She married Samuel Barber (born Osbournby) - my great Great grandfather who died in 1851 (Peakirk)
She then married James Perrin
Mary lived until 1910 living with her daughter in Grantham after the death of James
She had 5 children with Samuel and 2 with James
I have a photo of her in later life
I have not been able to confirm her parentage but have found a Mary of this date born to a Francis Bools

Hi
Do you have any links with the Booles family of nearby Ewerby? My grandad Fred Booles married Violet Smith and her family lived in Great Hale. I think there were two separate Booles families in the area - one spelling their name with an 'e' and the other without. I'm wondering if we got back far enough whether they would link up. I have found Booles in Ewerby back to the 1700s so they tended to stay put.

Hi
I have not been able to pinpoint where Mary was born as different documents show different rural Lincolnshire pleases - always around Osbournby and the Hales. Again with the spelling - different spellings on different docs.
The nearest I have got to who Mary's mother was is that a Frances Bools had a "base born" daughter of the same name at the same time.

Hi
I am Mary Bools great great grand daughter from her second marriage to James Perrin. I too can find no record of her baptism I think Mary was illegitimate.
A baptism record has been found at Haydor for a Mary Bowles 21.1.1816 illegitimate daughter of Frances Booles. Frances married a Richard Walton on 3.12.1816 in Osbournby. There are no records of any Booles living in Haydor. Haydor is only a few miles from Great Hale. Frances parents were Mary and William Booles - who could have brought Mary up.

I think another visit to Lincolnshire Archives may help - haven't got one planned but asmy son lives in Lincoln I will get him on the "case"
I would love to hear more about our family link and wonder if you would like to reply via my email address: (*)

Hi.
I've only just picked up this posting so you probably have this information by now. . .
From Ewerby registers I found baptism July 2, 1800, Frances daughter of Ann Booles (illegitimate).
I also found IGI baptism Ewerby December 26, 1792 James Booles, son of William and Mary Booles.
I'm wondering if Ann was James' older sister. Ewerby is close to Great Hale.
If this is the same Frances the thread talked about then she would have been 16 if she is Mary's mother.
James Booles is my ancestor. I haven't been able to find anything about William and Mary.
