Hello
I am trying to trace the parents of an Ellen Bolger who was born in about 1833. Census info indicates she was born in Kilkenny.
It would appear she married in Ireland (location unknown) to Robert Stevens in about 1858 and had two sons in Ireland before moving to England to continue the family.
I have her surname from the birth certificate of the first child born in England, but without marriage details, which have so far proven illusive, I have no knowledge of her parentage.
Any help to move even a single generation back would be most appreciated
Thanks
Glen

If she married in Ireland only her father's name will be listed on the marriage certificate. Civil registration of Catholic marriages started 1864 (non-Catholic from 1845). For earlier records you need to look for church records (if they still exist).

Thanks
Should I just assume that there are no records available online anywhere, or other sources which can be searched, and close the Irish line of enquiry down until a visit can be made to churches in the area?

What information is available depends on several things. What religion were they? If R.C. then you will have to search for a church record of the marriage.
If the 2 sons were born in Ireland before 1864 you will also need to check church records for their baptisms.
To see if any church records still exist for the family you need to know their religion and where hey lived (parish if not actual townland) not just the county.

Thanks for the info

Hello
My ancestor Simon Bolger born 1835 in Graignemanagh, Kilkenny parents Stephen Bolger and Ellen Hennessy married 1831. had a sister named Ellen Bolger and the date is 1840 of Ellen's baptism.
They are R.C and I have more information if you want to email me. They also had a brother John born 1832 and Patrick who left Ireland and lived in Islington, Liverpool. They where boot/shoe makers.
I have traced the family in Liverpool if you want more information.
The names in order in this family are
John, Patrick, Simon, Ellen, Bridget, Lawrence, Mary, James
Kindest regards
Kristina

I am from the Bolger Family and i am currently working on research in ireland in the kilkenny, Enniscorthy, Arklow and Wicklow areas. If you could contact me with what you have and who relates to who i will check my records and see if i find any matches.. The walsh name is certainly not common and Ellen may not be the birth name but i do have an Ellen Bolger and also the surname walsh in my data.

Likely not the same Ellen Bolger, but I would appreciate any facts about a James Bolger, born Co. Carlow in 1807, near Kildavin. His will of June 1860 bequeathed his estate to sisters in Callan, Co Kilkenny: Ellen; Jane; and the son of the eldest, Mary, who was married to Charles Sloan. James directed his estate bequest through Rev. C. B. Stevenson of WestCourt.
James emigrated in 1828 through Dublin, Quebec, New York to Pennsylvania. I only know his wife as a Margaret, born New Jersey; I do know his children, from censuses of 1840 and 1850. Thanks for any help.

I'm looking for the birthplace of an Ellen Bolger but Bolger was her married name I don't know her maiden name as well as her husband Edward. Edward was from County Wicklow and they had children John (born about 1827), Richard (born about 1830), Mary (also born about 1830) and maybe Eliza (born in US ? about 1847) there could have been others and they left Ireland for NY in I think 1837. Trying to find other Bolger family and what part of Wicklow they were from?? Mary Bolger married Patrick Duffy in NY I believe they are my great great grandparents. Thanks anyone for any help. Best of luck on your searches.

I have just been working on my gggGrandmother. Her name was Bridget Bolger, born 24 June 1831 in Kilkenny, Ireland. I'm afraid I don't have her parents names. However, I just found out yesterday that she and her husband John Burke were married in St. Canice's Catholic Church in Kilkenny. This information was in their parish records. You might start there to see if you can locate Ellen's baptismal record. Considering the proximity in birth dates of your Ellen and my Bridget, I wonder if they were sisters.
