My greatgrandparents Julia and Pat Henigan arrived in Victoria on Champion of Seas in 1859 from County Kerry Ireland. They had a daughter Mary born 20 October 1860 in Melbourne. They also had 2 other daughters Catherine born about 1866 and Julia Agnes born about 1868. Patrick was a goldminer and later came to New Zealand, Katherine and Julia's death certificates say they were born in NZ but there is no record of this and we think they may have been born in Australia could anyone please help with a look up?
Many thanks

only Mary's birth is showing up on the Victoria index I have done a search using the mothers name Horigan and turned up nothing either

Thank you for that is it possible that a birth may not have been registered and if so could it be found in church records, they were catholics.
-
Actually I should have mentioned that the mothers name was Horgan

This is the only birth to this couple I can find in Aus. Rather difficult to check parish records unless you know where in Victoria they were living.
HENIGAN Mary
Father Patrick Mother Julia HORIGAN
At Melbourne 1860 Reg#18230
I can't see them leaving Victoria for NZ.
Have you checked the passenger arrivals in NZ?

Did Catherine and Julia marry?.
Does NZ marriage certificate include place of birth?
Is this your Catherine...?
1888/400 Kate Henigan m. William John Barris.
Who are the informants on the two death certificates for Catherine and Julia?
Are they close family who might be expected to know them well?
-
The Kate Hennigan who married William Barris is the Kate that we were looking for in australian records. Death certificates say they were born in Charleston NZ however not registered or in Catholic hurch records for them. Think parents came to NZ about 1872/74 but have not located a passenger list with them on it unless they left from a different port.
Thanks for the help

Should have mentioed that sometimes Patrick used the name Hannigan.

Death certificate for Patrick or Julia would be useful in finding a year of arrival.
NZ BDM has death of Julia Henigan, 39yrs, 1881.
Is that your Julia?.
Death certificate NZ from 1876 -
Occupation, parental details, where born, when and where buried, marriage details, ages of children of deceased, length of time in NZ recorded on death registrations.
Those details would be much closer in time to the arrival of this family in NZ than are details recorded on certificates for daughters Julia and Catherine years later, so likely to be more reliable.

This Julia Hennigan is the mother of Kate and Julia. Already have the death certificate with details.
