Title: ancestry co.uk going crazy
Post by: escargot on Wednesday 27 February 08 13:49 GMT (UK)
Anyone else experienced this -

I'm looking for family in Surrey 1851 and three times in a row when I have 'hovered' on the view record bit on Ancestry  have had listed on 'rest of family members' a list of names like this -

James Brownjohn  6
James Brownjohn 30
James Brownjohn 11

when I looked on the original census there is not even a name remotely like the one listed.

On one there was an even longer list of the same name with different ages and not one was on the original census!

Just had another go and  on the whole page of results the same thing is happening!

Is it me ....................... :)

Same thing happened to me 5 minutes ago

Ann Heppelwhite 70
Ann Heppelwhite 67

bearing no similarity whatsoever either to anybody in the household or indeed anybody else on the page!

Oh, that's all right then!  I thought it was my computer for a minute.  Perhaps it is some sort of glitch...  Seriously, though it doesn't make my search any easier.  I think I'll leave it and come back tomorrow.

Thanks Anna

It seems to be a new problem today - it only happens on the summary page, so if you click on "View others on page" you still get the correct names without having to go to the image.

is it just me or has anyone else noticed that when you get the source citation page for a census year up on ancestry and scroll down the page to see the people living there they all appear to have one name.
an example on 1851 census for sarah swain;/ HO107/1534/69/55.
the only name that then comes up is james beeston and jane beeston.
could SKS have a look and see if they get the same result.

The first family I looked up this morning all had my own name - quite spooky until I realised it was a glitch!  ;D

I've just had one - clicked on one of the names in the list and it came up with a totally different name, as did the next one I clicked on and so on.

Really wierd.  Haven't come across my own name yet though!!

Not only does it do that, but each click takes you to completely different parts of the country!

Starting with Elizabeth Brown in Shoreditch, (on wozzle's original page) I clicked on John Beston who was apparently in her household. This took me to John Beston in Warboys (Cambs). Clicked on Caroline Fan which transported me to Stoke Newington, and from there clicked on William Barnell and found myself in Barnstaple!

It's like being trapped with no means of escape.

The 1851 is still the same, but the images are the correct ones, it's just all the household members which are strange.

Agreed, 1851 is still crazy, each click on a family members takes you on a rapid trip round the country!
What has happened?

i get the same
crazy it seems the person who lived in the houshold is the person named at the top of the census sheet
so they may not actually live in 'your' household at all

Title: 1851 Ancestry- seems to have gone wrong
Post by: heywood on Thursday 28 February 08 20:53 GMT (UK)
Hello,
sorry if I'm in the wrong place here but my 1851 Ancestry UK seems to have gone totally daft.
Each time I look someone up and view the quick record, the other household members all have the same name (unrelated to the one I am searching) but with different ages :
e.g. looking up Mary Bloggs and find her. The household members are then all called Alf Smith but with varying ages. It's very odd.
Has this just happened?
best wishes
heywood

.com seems ok.......go to UK home page...click on 1841 or 1851 and then put in any name...enter and when the list comes up view one of the records...

Correction.  .com is acting up now

Gadget, please search Cuthbert Elsdon, born 1808, living Co. Durham.
Then click on 'view record' and report back who the family members are. I won't tell you what I see!
I'm on .com

1841 & 1851 Scotland's working ok, I've been using them this evening from the Search Tab, and have just re-tried them from the Home Tab with no problems.  How frustrating for those who are getting problems, it's hard enough sometimes to find the rellies even when there aren't any technical problems!

Hope you all resolve it.
Kind regards
Gaie

And if you then click on one of the 8 Edward Whites in Cuthbert's household you are transported to another family in Somerset. Click on one of those and you are in Stratford le Bow, Middlesex and so on ad infinitum.
