Hi all
I'm a newbie here but have done a fair bit of my family research.
I would love to find out anything about old Shropham and Hockham. My family lived at various addresses ie: Low rd, White Horse rd, Lands Cottages, Watton Rd etc.
Family names are predominantly: Nobbs, Hunt, Saunders, Angel, Wright, amongst others.
I've never been able to search by addresses but have got back to John Nobbs born about 1770.
It would be great to hear from anyone with information or similar interest.

I am researching the Nobbs family who ended up in Bury, but originated in Bedingham Norfolk (John Nobbs b circa 1738) family then lived in Bungay Suffolk, then Ripon Yorkshire then to Lancashire. Is this the same tree as yours?

The furthest I have got back is John Nobbs, born c1770, not sure where. He married a Sarah, possibly Betts in Norwich. Two generations later, many of the Nobbs's migrated to Brighouse, Yorkshire, during the 1870s.

Possibly but the earliest John Nobbs I have was born in Bedingham Norfolk in 1738 and married Elizabeth King on 15/9/1765 at Bedingham. The had about 8 children one on whom was another John born 1798, married 14/1/1823 Mary Watson. They had at least (prob more) 7 children and moved to Bungay Suffolk. They also had a John (b1828) but the line I am recearching descended from another of their sons Nicholas Hudson Nobbs b1830 Bungay, he was the one who moved to Yorkshire living in first as a page boy then a butler living in at the Parsonage at Spofforth where a total of 8 servants were kept. He married the kitchen maid Sarah Wilson on 1/1/1866, then had his own outfitting business in Ripon. They had 5 children all born in Ripon the oldest of whom was Robert Horace b Dec.qtr 1866, married at twice Elizabeth Kitson 12/6/1890 London, but split up straight away, baby born 6 weeks later Frederick (Clarence but Lawrence on birth cert) who was fostered out and eventaully adopted, Robert Horace went back to live with parents in Ripon. Frederick ended up in Bury and married there in 1914 and had two children Roy b1922 and Dorothy b1923. So the family followed more or less the same pattern as the one you are researching from Norfolk to Yorkshire, so perhaps your came down from John through another of their sons? I haven't found out what happened to all the siblings of the family yet. Hope this helps, if not perhaps someone will recognise it and get in touch with me?

Madeleine have you visited Shropham?. i know i was in touch with some one a few yrs ago researching some of your names, i just wonded if it might have been you.... Shropham is just up the road from me...

No it wasn't me, and no I haven't visited Shropam. I have only just started researching the Nobbs family history, I am doing it for a friend having spent several years doing my own and getting as far as I can with that.

I'm specifically interested in any Nobbs connections, they all seem to have left Shropham/Hockham, I am also interested in the Hunts and Saunders, My gt grandmother was Anna Louisa Hunt b: 1853 at Hockham, she married my gt grandfather, William Nobbs in 1875, they were living in Surrey in 1881. I now have a fair bit of info about the families but there is a puzzle. Anna Louisa's brother Jabez Hunt b: 1862 at Hockham was with his parents in 1881 but no further records have been found, if you can throw any light on this rellie I would be very grateful. My grandfather, Harry Alexander Nobbs was staying with the Hunts in 1881 census though generally was living in Surrey with his parents What's your connection Kezia?
