Looking for William and Elizabeth Prosser on 1901 Census,
hopefully around the area of Merthy Tydfil. William and Elizabeth were married in that District 24 December 1894.
William born 1869 in Dixton Mon. Elizabeth I have no place of Birth but she would be about 36 years old in 1901. They
had a child Mary Prosser born 21 February 1895 in Penderyn.
Any help will be much appreciated.

not having any luck with William, but this looks like their daughter Mary, given that Penderyn is a couple of miles from Hirwaun.

Osprey,
Thanks for that. You are corrrect, this is Mary and she is with
James the Brother of William. I think I will post my request on the Monmouth board and see if that produces anything.
I can only think that William has gone back to where be came
from originally, possibly to find employment and left Mary in
the care of his Brother. I appreciate your help very much.

I looked in all Welsh counties and England for your Prossers. Penderyn is on the border of Glam & Breconshire, so no point looking in just Glamorgan.

Osprey,
Thanks again and my apologies for not assuming you would
look in Monmouth as I had mentioned that was where he
came from. I was about to look in England as William had a
Brother John who moved to Kent in the early 1880's and I
wondered if he may have gone there. This is a puzzle in view of the child Mary who was with Brother James in 1901.
I am in touch with the family in Kent and will ask to see if
they know anything about this.
As an aside from that, the wife of William was Elizabeth James and as you have James in your tree I thought it worth
a mention. Don't know much about Elizabeth other than the
fact that they married in Merthyr and she was born about 1865. Of course, I realise James is quite common, so it is
probably just one of those wierd coincdences?

I do have James in my tree but from Cornwall, arriving in Cardiff via Bristol. Don't think I've lost an Elizabeth though, but you never know.

Osprey,
Thanks for your reply. Don't know much about Elizabeth James, I had been hoping to find out more from the 1901
Census. I have the Marriage Certificate, all it tells me is that
she was 29 when they married in Dec. 1894 and that they
were both living in Hirwain at time of Marriage. There were
two witnesses, mark of Sophia Harris and mark of David James (Brother?). Also she was a Spinster and her Father was John James a Coal Miner. I did look on the 1881 Census
hoping to find her, she would be about 16 then, but there
were so many Elizabeth James' I gave up. Have not tried
the 1891 Census as yet. Just one of genealogies little puzzles to keep us up nights!

think I've found the witness, Sophia Harris, in Hirwaun, Aberdare RG12/4442 folio 96 pg 35. Possible for Elizabeth in Fforchaman, Aberdare RG12/4446 folio 15 pg 25.
Does the marriage cert give their exact addresses? Which church/chapel were they married in - just in case it ties down the area where Elizabeth might have been.

Oh dear - I wonder about this entry
death registration
Elizabeth Prosser aged 32 december quarter Merthyr Tydfil vol 11a pg 326
Might explain why their daughter is with an uncle in 1901.Or, it might be that the 1911 census will hold some answers.

Osprey,
Sincere thanks for all your time and effort. They were married in the Register Office, would assume that may be in
Merthyr? It states 1894 Marriage at The Register Ofice in the District of Merthyr Tydfil etc. etc. Residence at time of
Marriage was 9 Harries Chapel Row, Merthyr Road, Hirwain.
Almost identical for William, only 10 Harries Chapel Row.
The death would certainly explain why the child was with James Prosser & family. I will obviously have to make a decision as to whether or not I want to order that death
certificate. I was looking at the 1881 Census again, but there
are really too many to make a definite ID. Best I could come up with was a family living in Penderyn, Father John, Coal Miner,Mother Mary both born Carmarthen. That would explain the name given to the child. There was also a younger Brother David James, so the entry looks very like my
family. I really appreciate all your help. Hopefully I can sort it all out, if not, I can at least say the effort was made.

Roaming Grannie we are definitely related. It was John Mason Prosser that moved to Kent
