Post by: Gbateman on Sunday 09 January 05 18:48 GMT (UK)
1881Census shows   George Bateman at 1 Clarks Bdgs, London, Middlesex*age 27   b.London, Middlesex. Is anyone able to report what the 1871 census shows - even better if he's also on the 1861 census!
Thanks

I could only find one George Bateman of the right age born in Middlesex... and to be perfectly honest I am not too sure about this one at all....

George Bateman

17
1854

Hillingdon, Middlesex, England

son of     George Bateman      52  born in c 1819
born in Boingdon, Hertfordshire, England

and

Emma Bateman
aged 37
born c 1834
Wife
Where born:    Uxbridge, Middlesex, England

can send you image if you want PM me with your email address also if you want the image of the 1881 census can provide that too.

But did find the marriage of George and Rebecca... this may help if you get cert to find out Georges Fathers name ...

Bateman, George 1878 December St Giles London Middlesex 1b 888

Dudley, Rebecca 1878 December St Giles London Middlesex 1b 888

Best wishes

Mo

I've still not managed to get back beyond George Bateman or to prove whether the one shown on 1871 census at Hillingdon is the right one. The problem is that this census shows place of birth as Hillingdon while later census entries from 1881 show my George Bateman as born in London. I have not got round to sending off for the marriage certificate between George and Rebecca Dudley (to see who is shown as George's father) - I've been putting it off until I've had the chance to visit my aged father in Suffolk to see if he's got any papers which might give a clue.
