Hi,
I'm trying to trace the whereabouts of my Great Grandfather prior to him joining the South Wales Borderers in 1914, and I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to see if either he or his father might appear on the Swansea area trade directories?
My Great-grandfather was Joseph Alexander Bennett, and he was a Boiler Maker (Ship builders) by trade. His father was also Joseph Bennett, and he was a Steel Worker by trade. Unfortunately, the most relevant address I have is from the 1901 Wales Census, where the family address is as follows:
105 Pentre Estyll, Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales
I appreciate this is some time before the period I'm interested in, and my great grandfather would have only been eight years old at the time, but it's all I have to go on at the moment!
Any assistance would be much appreciated!!!
Regards
Paul

Might be worth googling the West Glamorgan Archive Service at Swansea Council and see if they have a directory in paper form for the period you are after.

Why not look on this site -
www.historicaldirectories.org
This site lists a number of Swansea directories which can be viewed on-line.
Good luck!

My father went to the archives and found 2 directories covering 1910 to 1914 but failed to locate any reference to Joseph A Bennett.

Looks like I'll have to sit it out till the release of the 1911 Census!!
Please pass my thanks on to your father for me Bebee!
