Hi all,
Does anyone have easy access to "Fifeshire Monumental Inscriptions (pre-1855) vol. 2 The western parishes"? Or another source for burials in Burntisland?
I'm trying to find out when an ancestor died. Her name was Isabella BRISBANE and she would have died between the 1851 census and, presumably, the introduction of civil registration in 1855. She lived in Burntisland and was married to James BRISBANE. Age at death would have been between about 45 and 50.
Any help much appreciated!
Thank you :)

Hi Prue
I have the CD of pre-1855 Fife Death Index v2.
I can't find any Isabella Brisbane listed. What was her maiden name? maybe she is listed under that.

Hi Lynn :)
THanks for your response. Isabella's maiden name was HENDERSON. She was also known by the diminutive 'Isa' - not sure if that will help at all...
If you wouldn't mind looking for another one, I would really appreciate it if you could see if Robert or Campbell SWAN is listed on your CD. He died on 1 April 1850 and was from Burntisland.
Is your CD an index of burials, or MIs?
Thank you so much for your help :)

Hi Prue,
the CD is from the Fife Family History Society and is a death index: contains data from OPRs and other sources eg obituaries, some burials and MIs I think.
Still can't find Isa Henderson / Brisbane (infact there are only 2 Brisbanes listed on the whole CD).
I have found an entry for Campbell Swan though:
Campbell SWAN; abode Burntisland; Date of Death: 1 Apr 1850; Occupation: Seaman "Leviathan"; Found Dead - at Granton - Fife (Herald 4 Apr 1850) : Source: Newspaper
hope this helps,
Lynn

Hi Lynn,
Thank you so much for looking, I wonder where all my Brisbanes went when they died, then...'tis a mystery!
Thank you also for the entry about Campbell Swan - in fact I do have that newspaper article (the text, anyway). He was drunk and fell off the Leviathan rail ferry on which he was a crew member :-\ He was taken back to Burntisland for burial.
Many thanks indeed - and a belated welcome to Rootschat!
Cheers

Can you tell me what volume towns near Markinch and Auchterderran would be in? Are the burial records from the OPR's or did someone look for the stones? Thanks
