Hi
Any chance someone could do an ITM lookup for me ?
I'm trying to pinpoint when and how my 3xG-Grandfather came from Tasmania to Hokitika.
Andrew Turnbull ANDERSON married 14 March 1867 to Louisa STEPHENSON in Hokitika
Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Hi Hev
You are welcome.
It's not that people don't WANT to help, but things like paid work, families, and I guess even summer holidays do tend to disrupt genealogy research - even more so if it is someone else's research.
I have been working full time for the last 4 months so have been unable to go to Archives.
Of course if it is urgent, you always have the option of contacting Archives direct.....
:)

Appreciate that..........thanks Bren

Thanks Bren
Does this mean that Andrew was in Hokitika 18years at time of ITM certificate completed ?
This does not make sense with my records.
cheers

Hi Hev
It was a terrible scrawl....!
Would 18 months in the district make more sense??
If so, then she would be 12 months as it was idential "scrawl"

Hi Bren
I think I'll go with that assumption.
Any suggestions on where I could head from here ?
I'm assuming that he has travelled directly from Tasmania to Hobart and would like to find shipping details
Thank you so much for all your efforts :)

Hi Hev,
Hokitika wasn't founded until 1864, so I'd go with the 18 months!
My GG grandmother also settled in Hokitika in 1866 having lived in Tasmania for a few years. She came via Christchurch (a daughter was born there) but I haven't been able to find her on a shipping list either. Mind you - she married a Jones! :-\ Have you looked at the list of passengers leaving Tasmania? There is a link to it on the Australian board.
Good luck.

Here's the link:

He could also have travelled via Victoria to NZ. I see you are in Christchurch too.
The library here has passengers from Victoria to NZ on microfiche, so that's another possibility.

Hi Stephanie
Thank you for the link !
I have located some great info on one of Andrew Turnbull ANDERSON's brothers on this site.
I will take your advice and have a look in the library.
Keep in touch.
Cheers

Hi Hev,
Have you had a look at Papers Past? If you do an "exact phrase" search for Andrew Turnbull Anderson (great that he has that middle name :)) there are some interesting hits including one from the Otago Witness 14 July 1883 involving Andrew and his Stephenson in-laws.

Hi Stephanie
Yes, I did find the articles..........talk about skeletons in the closet !!!
Papers Past is a fantastic site - I have come across some very valuable information.
I am very thankful that he used his middle name, otherwise it would be near impossible to track him
Cheers

Yes - Papers Past is a fantastic resource. It has revealed more than a few skeletons in my family closet too! :o

Yep, and in my family closet as well ... (and big cheers to Stephanie who actually drew my attention to it). :)
Perhaps this wonderful website then, should be re-named
"Skeletons Past" ? ? :D

Good one Lu.
Or ... "Drunkards and Scoundrels Past"! ;D

Hi Stephanie
Yes, I like your "Drunkards and Scoundrels" suggestion much better :)
[Certainly my "lot" come into that category] :-[

Hi!
I came across this thread when googling for Andrew Turnbull Anderson and Louisa Stephenson. I'm researching my partners family, and his great great grandfather is a William Douglas Anderson, who married Janet Gartshore. When googling this William Douglas I found claims that Andrew Turnbull Anderson and Louisa Stephenson were his parents, but I haven't ordered certificates yet, so I'm not certain. I'm very interested to find out more about the family, and if you want to know more about William Joseph and Janets descendants, I'll be more than happy to help.
-
I found your thread purely by accident......not realising that you had posted a whole year ago.
I am certainly keen to make contact with you as I too am a descendant of William Joseph and Janet.
I'm not sure about the William Douglas name but my line is as follows:
Andrew Turnbull Anderson
William Joseph Anderson
William George Anderson
William Stanley Anderson
Richard Alexander Anderson
then me !
I have a wonderful 4 gen photo with William Stanley as a baby....a real treasure.........and happy to share if you would like a copy.
Hope to hear from you :)
Cheers
