Has anyone have an oral tradion in their family of an ancestor being an Eskimo?
I do it comes from my grandmothers family who are Begg,Thomson people.
The timeframe would have been around 1700. This is a period when Eskimo people were often crew on whaling ships. These ships sailed from Greenland to Scotland on a regular basis.
I have cousins, including me, who have an Asian shaped eye's. We all have, or I did when I was younger, jet black hair.
I would be grateful for any information I can get.

Oh dear :-\ If its true you have Eskimo ancestry, you may not have much luck trying to trace your ancestors -

I had thought that may be the case. But have considered that the name maybe Danish as Denmark had sovereignty over Greenland at the time.
But yes the true Eskimo name is probably lost.

What an interesting heritage, if difficult to research. But I can't get back before 1832 with my Irish lines. >:(
It would be interesting to see what your dna brought up, wouldn't it?

Have thought of dna analysis.
Already I know my blood group is rare B+. Only 7% of the population in the Uk have it. More common in Asia. And as it is thought that people from Asia moved over to North America in ancient times..well I am sure of the link. And yes the dna would confirm part of it I'm sure

Yes there is a theory that the Native American Indians are related via the Asian link, especially with the black hair and the facial resemblances.
