Title: Nottingham General Cem
Post by: ettya on Tuesday 12 February 08 20:54 GMT (UK)
Could anybody with the CD for Nottingham General Cemetery please tell me if there are any entered under the names of Guilar, Gilah Gyler, Guyler or Gayler ( my family never seemed to make up their mind how to spell their surname! ::)).

Many thanks

Esther

Hi ettya,

I have had a look on the NottsFH CD and there are only entries on the name Guyler.  There are 17.

Do you want the lot, or just say what Christian names are of interest!

Best wishes,
Cooperbeech5

Can I have all of them please - If I ask for certain Christian names I'm bound to forget someone.  Huge thanks.

Ettya ;D

Hi Ettya, I've just started to look at my Gayler family from Sutton - do they mean anything to you?  My grandmother was Dorothy Maud (b. 1910 Sutton) and her father was Harold John (b. 1879 Islington).  Any help gratefully received!
Thanks,
Martin

Hello Martin,

Welcome to Rootschat…. :)

I am not going too be to much help in your Gayler research, but your grandmother is on our family tree.
Your mum and my husband are cousins; I won’t mention any names for living relatives as it isn’t the right thing to do on here.
I can’t send you a personal message until you have made three posts.
You say your grandmother was born in Sutton in Ashfield? But she and her twin were registered in Shardlow registration district.

Births JunQ 1910
GAYLER  Daisy Isabella     Shardlow  7b 566
GAYLER  Dorothy Maud     Shardlow  7b 565

If you don’t have access to census I can help with that….or anyone on here will be willing.

I haven’t access to the full details for the 1911 census but using the free search facility I can see your Gtgranddad is in Shardlow district with his family and can see your Grandma is there,But not sure if it is allowed to put the details on here re the 1911.

If you haven’t got around to doing your Mum’s grandparents I can shed some light on them….lot’s of stuff and willing to share

Best Wishes
Sheila.

Sheila, many thanks and yes you are right - my Grandmother was born at Sawley - must have been a blond moment when I wrote that!

Hi MArtin,

I haven't any links at present with the Gaylers on Sutton ( my family soon changed their name to Guyler and many lived in Basford Notts - just to confuse things) However, If I come across anything that might prove a link I'll get in touch with you.

Happy Hunting

Ettya

Would be interested in hearing if your Guilar family reached or came from Scotland.
Thank you.
Edward Guilar.
