Hi Rachel 2.... here is the dress you mention which I posted on a previous site and i think it got lost.
Quite an early pic I think, this lady has her hair covering her ears.
Would be great to see one of your colourings if you have time.

Thank you for reposting Brenda, you do have a lovely collection of photos...
we do request one photo per thread otherwise they get missed. I missed most of your other ones on the other thread and I didn't even see this one. :(
Jenny
-
Thanks Jenny..I think that this is the mother of the first lady I posted..the one sitting down in the ball gown, she looks to have a similar receding chin.
These were all in my Great Grandmothers album, just a matter of identifying who they are, trying to tie fashion in with the family history dates I have.

A black/white one from me for starters ;D
Delighted to see her on a thread of her own .... do you think it's a string/crochet bag she's holding ?
Rachel :)
-
Hi Rachel, I asked this on the other posting, someone suggested it could be a fan.
Any more ideas out there!!!
Brenda
-
Maybe she's about do do a little dusting..... ;D
Okay, okay <ducking> sorry ;D
-
Looks like a savoy cabbage leaf!! ;D
No seriously, could some of it be a mark on the photo, as it seems to have some black spots, whereas the original is sepia.

lovely photo. i get the feeling of a deep red or dark green material.
its pictures like this that make you wish they had added on the back, "aunty flo wearing her best blue dress for family photo"
-
Could it be a purse?
-
Could it be her knitting? ;)
-
Anyone can see , it's her Tickling stick !! ;D
-
Helen has a good point, Brenda, can you do a very high res scan of the item? About 1200dpi or so?
Cheers,
C
-
L ooks like a drawstring reticule to me 8)
-
Hi Brenda
Another clean up to add to the collection
Hippy :D :D :D
-
Here it is scanned at 1200dpi
Brenda
-
ooops done it again!!!
-
Thanks hippy..that is really clear and sharp.
Brenda
-
So, that darkish mark at about 5 o'clock outside the object could be the drawstring tassel? Wonder why the background of this thing is so much darker than the dark areas of the photo in general...?
C
-
I am with oldtimer - a reticule. That's not to say I didn't think the other ideas were wonderful ;D ;D
I think I can hear her saying - " Please don't ridicule my reticule"............
-
OK ... looked up 'reticule' .... that's what I said before :P ...
a string or crocheted bag/purse
So what's inside it ? ..... could it be a haggis ? ;D
The darkish mark (removed from my restore) ... I wonder if it could be a pompom type thing to fasten it (ie go through a loop)
-
Hi Brenda..........Heres my colour interpretation of your lovely photo.
Carolyn :)
-
That is lovely, thank you Saddles!!1
Brenda
-
;D A blue dress from me .... not one of my usual colours
I didn't replace the pompom thing .... still undecided
Rachel :)
-
That looks fantastic Rachel!!!
I could imagine the dress being that colour, its lovely.
Still think that thing looks odd in her hand, maybe its the way she is holding it as well,
Many Many thanks,
Brenda
-
I have guessed this photo to be about 1864...is that about right?
Brenda
-
Hi Brenda...1864 is probably about right, maybe a little earlier as the hairstyle is still fully covering the ears...we don't know how stylish this lady was in hair preferences :D
Anything on the back, any photographer's name?
Same studio as this one? Similar flooring...

Oh Wow .... so it is .... I kept thinking it looked familiar ;D
Well spotted China
Rachel :)
-
Hi China, no different studio, this is Maternal family, the other Paternal.
I have put those dates on the back. I think the plainess on the back signifies early 1960, is that right?
I am learning!!
Brenda
-
Sorry...I thought I had attached!!
-
Yes, very plain, not other design or wording, early 1860s. Nice back.
Actually, Rachel, the flooring I had in mind was this, but it turns out not to be Brenda's photos.

The sloping sholders on the one you refer to China are very much like the ones on the lady I posted previously, the one certain posters thought had a Harley Davidson outside!!
Do you watch Larkrise to Candleford..the costumes on that are fabulous!!!
Brenda
-
The one in this link looks kind of like carpet, maybe it's just out of focus...must have been a popular design, like the typical wallpaper.
Haven't seen Lark Rise, I expect we'll be getting it on cable in about 10 years :-\
