Title: can you colour mum for me please?
Post by: yummy-mummy-amy on Monday 11 February 08 12:31 GMT (UK)
hi,

i have been sent in this direction from family tree forum and told that you will be able to help me.

mum had dark brown hair, "peaches and cream" skin, bluey-grey eyes and pale pink lips.  as for the cardigan she is wearing i have no idea - apart from the fact the photo was taken in 1953//54

Amy,  for the hair colour I went with what I was presented with and tinted.. rather than change it completely.  She is photographed in sunlight and her hair is glistening in the sun  ;D

On some people hair colour can change as the grow up.
My brother and OH were both really blonde as children but changed to dark brown...  Without photos you would never imagine that either were little blondies as kids.

To make her hair darker I would have to change the lighting and over saturate, it wouldn't look natural and if you then placed the before and after side by side it would look really odd!

Hi Jenny!

I thought your version was lovely! It was really tastefully coloured. I think that you should re-instate it for those RCs who never got to see it!  :D

jenny i did like yours, the colours were really nice.

i am greatful to all who have tried, i have no idea as to where to start with colouring and restoring photos.  iunderstand that you can only do so much with them b4 they look fake.

the last 1 you did mudge looks like an oil/pastel drawing and is effective from a distance.

thanks again

Like always, I'm hours behind everyone else. I've really got to learn to work faster to keep up.
Don't think I got the colors right and had trouble with those bows.

That's really beautiful colouring Nan  :D

I often take days (sometimes weeks) before I think I've done it OK ...

But I had a go at this one before, so that's why I was quick to post.

My flesh colours are beginning to look weird and I know that
when I upload there's a change in colour and density  :(

Thanks Rachel. It's good to know I'm not the only one who's slow at this.
I have the same trouble with colors. I've tried getting my monitor calibration right but I don't think it's ever quite what it should be.
I do wonder if what looks right to me looks completely different to everyone else, depending on their settings.

Mine looks as if she has five o clock shadow around the chin and I can't think what I need to do ....
rethink my whole approach I guess ....  :-[

The day I see a restore of yours that is "not up to standard" is the day I quit photo restoring.

 :-* Caz,

We all give it our best shot and colour how we see it.

As I've said previously on other threads, between us, we should be able to provide at least one that is acceptable to the postee and if it doesn't then they should go to a professional restorer to get it done.

After all if the photo is that precious then its priceless  ;)

I am amazed at the quality of the restorations on here .
I took a photo of my mother to  photographers and it cost me £18 for a photo about 8 inches by 10 inches so well done you.
