I'm looking for any information on Henry Catterall (c.1798), his wife Nancy (c.1797), children, Henry (c.1812), Robert (c.1826) and Thomas (c.1831).
Thanks in advance

Hi, Joan :)
Thanks for your welcome, I have some basic census info, I'm looking for Henry and Nancy's parents so I can move evermore backwards. Exact Birth and Christening dates would be helpful.

Hi Jim,
A warm welcome from me too.
I notice that you only name the three boys. Did you notice on the 1841 census that there was a Deborah Hindle, with husband Thomas and 1 year old child Dinah living with them?
A Deborah CATTERALL married Thomas Hindle on 28th October, 1839 at St. Marys Blackburn. Her father was listed as Henry Catterall and his father was William Hindle. So a possibly further child of Henry and Nancy`s?
There are a few baptisms on the IGI to a Henry and Nancy Catterall including Deborah`s and a brother John on the same day:
St. Pauls, Blackburn
Baptised to a Henry and Nancy Catterall
John Cattrel and Deborah on 22nd Sept. 1819
Robert Catterall 9th December, 1821
Henry Cateral on 29th May, 1825.
Are you sure your date for son Henry is correct as looking at the 1841 census, even allowing for the rounding down of ages to then nearest 5 or 0 it doesn`t quite tally. :(
Now, I know the above doesn`t help trying to find Henry and Nancy`s parentage but with a daughter called Deborah it may possibly be a family name, so worth keeping in mind.
Regards,
Mo.

Thanks for the welcome Mo, :)
Yes, I did see the Hindle's listed, but put it down to multi-family occupancy, which seemed fairly normal for that time.
Sorry, you are right the birth date for Henry (son) is wrong, it should be 1826, the same as Robert as they seem to be twin's.
Thanks for the baptisimal info I'll try to expand on it. :) As far as I know at the time my ancesters were not, RC, but you never know.
Thanks again

Hi Jim,
Ages 15 and above were normally rounded down in the 1841 census so anyone aged 15 to 19 would be recorded as 15. 20 - 24 would be recorded as 20 and so on. Therefore Henry and Robert may not be twins. Infact the baptisms would suggest otherwise.
Also St. Pauls was not RC if that is what you meant. ??? It was Church of England.
By the way, you may have already got this, but a Henry Catterall, Weaver married Nancy Clayton at St. Mary the Virgin, Blackburn on 28th September, 1817. The full info is on www.lan-opc.org.uk.

Hi, Mo
Thanks for your help, do I go and shoot myself and give up now :) why cant every thing be easy and straight forward? I'm relatively new to this game so please forgive my ignorance.
Thanks also for the Nancy Clayton link, I seem to remember catching sight of something like that, I'll have another look ;)
Thanks for your help, looks like I'm going to need plenty of it.
