Hi All,
I have been trying to read this, character by character, for months and have achieved nothing, so I'm asking for help.
This is just part of one and a half page sentence to a will written in 1606.
Does it make sence to anyone?
I'd be happy to send the whole thing to anyone who may be able to help - word by word translation isn't necessary - just a rough idea would be FANTASTIC.
Thanks
Di

Hi Diane,
What I can see is In Dei Nomine amen
In the name of God amen. I expect you got that far!

Is this the part at the end of the will?
I can some names but also that one of them is a Doctor of Laws and the Prorogative Court of Canterbury is mentioned. I suspect that is comes from the probate part at the end but names some of the people involved as well: John Crouche? who lived in Conyburye within the parish of Layston? in the county of Hartford. Then there's Thomas Crouche his son and executor, Wiliam Crowche and Elizabeth Freeman? Jane Barckham Anna ....coll Joan Freeman and Margaret Lane.
That's about all I can see apart from the mention of the deceased a few times and Testament.
Any help?

Hi there,
I have done a course in palaeography and am about to embark on a second module examining wills and probate documents. However I was under the impression that by the 17th century these documents were usually written in English with only bits at the beginning and end. My Latin needs a lot of refreshing particularly as medieaval Latin, in England differs from the text book stuff we did at school.
If you want to send me a copy I'll try and transcribe it and maybe get a bit of help from my university tutor who is an 'expert'.

Thank you everyone,
This is actually the beginning of the Sentence.
The names that you have mentioned Little Nell do match with the Crouch family
although John Crouch's will has his name spelt CROWTHE and I assumed
it would have been spelt that way here ::)
There is a bit of a mystery about this guy and I was hoping that this may hold the answer.
Thank you Jane for your offer.
I will attach it here in pdf format and hopefully you should be able to download it.
Many thanks
Di
