Susan, can I ask for a little more information please:
date of marriage?
bride and grooms ages? occupations?
William's father's name?
father's occupations?
Do you have the family on any census or would you like lookups?

This looks like my family.
Yes the marriage took place on the 8 Jan 1848.William Cracknell is given as a labourer as is William Buckenhams father.
It states full age for William and minor for Mary.
I have no census results for the Cracknell.
Thanks for helping

Who was William Buckenham's father? I may be able to locate him in the census.
Do you think this might be William, Mary and children?

My thanks think George will be Williams brother,if this William is mine can not understand why it says labourer as he was definitely a black smith.
the fathers of the bride and groom were ag lab.
William Buckenham (elder)was born c1887 I believe in Southery his wife was Elizabeth surname unknown.
William Cracknell born 1801 Feltwell wife Mary surname unknown.

Hi Susan,
Mistakes happen on the census. It looks like the same family in 61 and 71 - I wouldn't worry to much about the ag lab bit.
I'm having problems getting into Ancestry at the moment so can't help with further lookups - except that the 1881 is free, so I'll see what I can find.
-
Well, we need to be looking for a death for William between 1871 and 1881 because:
1881
James Clark head mar 60 b Methwold
Mary Clark wife 53 b Methwold
Wm Buckenham wife's son 21 b Methwold

If it's any consolation, I'm a Buckenham from Southery and I get confused about who I'm related to when I go back further than my father - we're worse than Hobbits when it comes to geneology! Attached is some info which I found in my late mother's effects. The William who was a publican of the Nags Head was my grandfather, and by turns blacksmith, labourer and carrier - they all swapped jobs willy-nilly to survive. He married a full-blood Romany who bore him 2 children before dying of tuberculosis (I don't know what her name was, and she died when my father was about 11 years old) He (and following generations) went by the nickname of 'Cockles', and his father was 'Doss'. Such nicknames being normal in Norfolk where we all have the same names i.e. my father George William Buckenham was 'Young Cockles to differentiate from his cousin George William Buckenham who was 'Progue'). I'm not sure if this helps or confuses you further, but if you could tell me what my grandmother's name was I'd be much obliged!
Good Luck

Welcome to rootschat Cockles. This is quite an old post, and I can't remember the finer details of it.
There are quite a lot of free Norfolk resources online now, which may help in your search.
Your father's birth certificate would be the best place to start as that will give his mother's name. If you need help finding this, could you tell us his date of birth (if not still living), and place of birth (presumably Southery?)and we'll try to help.
Also, from your father's year of birth we can get an an idea when your grandmother died. From this we may be able to find her age at death, then work out her approx year of birth and go further back to find her parents.
What is the name and birth date and place of your father's sibling (if still living you should not give this information)?
-
Freebmd has the following births:
Births Mar 1881
BUCKENHAM George William
Downham 4b 389
Births Sep 1887
BUCKENHAM George William
Downham 4b 350
Downham registration district includes Southery.
Are either of these possible? Or are they too early? I'm a bit confused timewise. ;)

Thanks Ruskie
Sorry about the delay in replying - I work away.
I've found out that my paternal grandmother was Lillian Legge (someone still living in the village tells me there's a plaque in the church to that effect). Got there in the end!
