A Long shot, she has been found March Quarter 1923 married to a Williams in Pontypridd, I doubt she was born then but I would be interested to see if there were any Brittons in Pontypridd in the 1901 census

Are you certain she was just named Hilda Britton?
There is this marriage reg
Mar qtr 1823
Pontypridd
Hilda M Britton
spouse: Williams
and this birth
Hilda may Britton
Mar qtr 1900
Pontypridd

If a BMD is registered in Pontypridd -that is only the registration district and does not necessarily mean they were born/married/died in Pontypridd itself
Some of the areas covered by Pontypridd reg district are (as well as Pontypridd itself)
Aberdare, Eglwysilan, Llanfalon, Llantrisant, Llantwitfadre, Llanwonno, Rhondda, Ystradfodwg

There was also a Hilda may britton birth reg
Jun qtr 1899
newport

On the 1901 census I can only find Hilda M Britton b. Risca -I suspect this is the newport reg Hilda

Yes that's the marriage which has been found, (BTW I spotted the deliberate mistake in the date)
The only reference I have is to a Hilda Britton, no second name/initial. The date of birth would appear to be 15 July which would put her in the September quarter for birth dates. I am assuming the the date of 1923 quoted in the birthday book is her year of marriage She would be on my Paternal grand fathers side if she is related and I am still trying to track down his brothers ans sisters, I have photo's but not much else.

Right further browse through transcription relveals these names/dates which may tie in with Suz post
Harriet Lucking 8/6
Aunt Harriet died 26 may 1912
Mary Britton 3/10
Aunt Sarah 27/6
Unless otherwise specified it would appear as if the dates are all birthdays.
As usual one pace forward and two back

I have a few possibilities -but to save going round in circles can you post your paternal grandfather's details (assuming he is deceased) and what information you have -we can maybe piece it together from there.
Birth's were sometimes registered late I have recently come across one in my daughter in laws line -where the father was left to reg birth and he forgot-so registered it a quarter late -which took it into not only the next quarter, but the next year - he also gave an incorrect date of birth -fortunately he did "own up" later!

Hi Suz, I have no documentary proof but the date that I have from 'reliable sources' is 18th March 1885, born Shepherds Bush. This comes from the birthday book.
I have traced possibly an elder brother William, 1881 Paddington
His parents I have listed as Emma and William.

I have no reason to presume so. It was later found that this line was a red herring, all my 'Brttons' are descended from Ag Labs who moved to London from Hoo in Suffolk around the time of the in distrial revolution in the mid 1800s'\
