Title: 1851-Wilshaw-Cheddleton/Endon/Stanley-pls help
Post by: wheeldon on Saturday 02 February 08 16:15 GMT (UK)
Hi, I would be very gratefull if a kind person could have a look for the following family for me in 1851 before I pull my hair out  ???

Joseph willshaw/Wilshaw born 1821 in Cheddleton

Anne Wilshaw -wife-born 1826

George Wilshaw - son - born 1849

Joseph Wilshaw (born 1851 so unsure if he will be on the census)

I have a sneaking suspicion that they will be ling at 'Black Bank' but try as I might I cannot find this in the enumeration districts.  They are living at Black Bank in 1861 and I think he may have inherited/took over the farm after his father died in 1850.  I just can't find it.... :(

Many thanks for your time and help  :)

Hi
I found 'Black Bank' in enum district 5a (Cheddleton)  but no sign of your family.
Do you know the parents names? There were a number of Willshaw/Wilshaw in the Cheddleton area.
sorry this is not much help.

Mike

Hi Mcrem, thank you so much fro taking the time to look for me.  You have been a great help as at least I now know that he didn't inherit his fathers farm.

His father's name was George wilshaw but he died in 1851, his mother is Anne but she is living as a widow with his brother George Wilshaw.

I'll just keep looking and perhaps one day I may stumble across him.

Many thanks for your time.

Fiona :)

Hi Alli, in 1861 George is living and working as a farm servant with the Warrington family.

Joseph Wilshaw married Anne Tunnicliffe in Leek in 1848.

In 1861 it looks like he is living in the same property, Black Bank, that his father George Wilshaw (1763 - 1850) occupied in the 1841 census.  This is why I wondered if he was there in 1851.  I do have Joseph and family in all the other census....just wanted to fill in my gap for 1851 but the blighter just doesn't want to show up  ::)

Thank you again for taking the time to look for me.

Fiona :)

Hi
This is the first time  I have looked at this site and I have not looked back at earlier comments. So, apologies if they have already been answered.
Joseph Willshaw (also used one "L") was my GGG Grandfather. Born 11 May 1821 Lower Brund. Baptised 3.6.1821.
Married Ann Tunnicliffe (from Longnor) at Leek 28.12.1848
Joseph died 14.11.1894 at Tomkin and is buried Cheddleton ref 85.
Ann was born 6.5.1825 and died 26.8.1905 at Cats Edge.
She was living at The Bell in 1901 aged 75 - widow.

Joseph and Ann had 8 children. One of whom was my GG Grandfather George b 11.8.1849 Endon. I presume that this was the birth registration not where they lived, but not sure.

George was a farmer and he died at Rosebank Farm on 29.3.1931. This farm was close to Black Bank and The Bell. I think they rented Balck Bank initially and then bought Rosebank. My mother was born at Black Bank and lived at Rosebank Farm, Nr Cheddleton. I have copies of the census for 1901 and earlier.

All this reaearch has been done by a cousin's daughter and I am trying to put it on the computer...

Any more information - please contact me. brianbaggaley@btinternet.com

Brian
