Post by: Chris in 1066Land on Tuesday 30 March 04 16:28 BST (UK)
Hi there Jean

Hello Chris,
my GGGgrandfather was an Aaron Weston born Mayfield 1799 ,he married an Eliza about 1820, if you could find out anything about his christening/baptism or marriage it would be great, I live in the north of Scotland its along trek to the sussex records offce!!
            many thanks
                Jean.

Visited the County Record Office today at Lewes with the following results:

Mayfield Parish Church

Feb 3rd 1799, Aaron Weston, son of John & Lucy was baptized

and

April 18th 1822, Aaron Weston / Eliza Dann, both of this parish were married by Banns.

I looked up to 1830 for signs of any baptisms in Mayfield from the above couple  - but without success.

Thank you Chris for all this information and your time, its all very interesting.
I see that you're a Weston are we related in some way?
My great grandfather was Luther, he worked at Argos Mill until he died in 1903. His father was John, one of Aarons sons.
 many thanks,
  Jean.

Hi Jean,

It was a great pleasure to find that there was someone interested in this branch of the family and even more so to find that they were descended from the Westons at Argos Mill, which I'm sure you know has recently come to the end of a beautiful restoration project.

We're quite distant cousins, I think.  My branch of the family left Mayfield for Cranbrook in Kent in the 1660s, but I believe both branches are descended from the Westons living at Highfields Farm and neighbouring Mousehall at Tidebrook, just north-east of Mayfield in the mid 16th century and who appear (along with many other Weston families in the area) as some of the earliest entries in the Mayfield parish register.

If you were interested in joining the WikiTree project and adding information about your family to what I've already done, then I should be extremely grateful and very willing to offer any assistance that I can.

Regards,

Chris.

Hi Jean,

I had an email from Justin Brice of the Sussex Mills Group, who is researching the windmills and was keen to know if I had any information or memorabilia about the Argos Hill windmill.  He has a lot of information about Weston involvement at other Sussex locations too.  If you wanted to get in touch with him, his contact details are on https://www.sussexmillsgroup.org.uk/contact.htm.

Regards,

Chris.
