Hello,
I've been searching for ages for the dates of birth and marriage of George Wardle born c1825 Uttoxeter without success. I've found him (with lots of help) on all the census from 1841 to1891. There never seems to be much info about Uttoxeter on the Staffs pages. Does any one know if there is a Fam.Hist.Socy in that area? Also can anyone tell me where The Heath or just Heath is around there and where christenings might take place from there. I think his father may be Thomas Wardle born c1796 Bramsall, But of course without George's marriage or christening I have no proof. I've had lots of help here previously, so fingers crossed once more and many thanks

Hi
Presumably Jane's previous surname was Wright as the 1851 census shows Elizabeth Wright as "wife's daughter" aged 2 and a half (indexed as age 25!!) 1861 has her as Elizabeth Wardle aged 12
Now - was Elizabeth her illegitimate daughter, or did Jane leave her husband in favour of George Wardle which may account for why you can't find a marriage
If Elizabeth was illegit - then the marriage should be pre-1851
However - If Jane was still legally married - it could be a lot later than 1851 - she would have to wait until her first husband died as divorce was for the rich at that time
A copy of Elizabeth's birth cert may answer the question
You need to put a condition on your application that you only want it if her mother was Jane (christian name only) If it's the wrong one - you will only be charged a £3 search fee

Hello,
Thanks for swift reply. Yes Elizabeth was illegit and I do have her b.cert. No father mentioned, so presume Wright was Janes's maiden name. I can't find any trace of a marriage, so perhaps they didn't. V. frustrating, as I can't find any trace of George's birth either. In the 1841 census he was living with a family named Taylor as an app. shoemaker, so no sign of his parents there.
Thanks again
