Hi tinkerbell
Have book marked family you are looking for, will see if I can find anything
Do you know that Buckley surname is also known as either Buckland or Bucklin

Just a little info for you : taken from  index of Buckland & Buckley names 1888-1973
The Essex Buckley's all descended from a Joe Buckley born about 1780 who married a Gaji Woman from Harwich
Joe had 4 sons

But only Buckley's on road today are the descendants of Joiner & Seni who regard themselves as a very noble breed of Gypsies.

In the Midlands you have Lees. Prices, Buckland & Buckley's
Most of the Buckley's still travel the North of London but some crossed into Kent as their cousins Rhodes  & Oadley's

I will look and see if anything comes up for the ones you are looking for will get back to you

Title: Re: BUCKLEY; burials. are they yours?
Post by: social-butterflies on Wednesday 04 February 09 22:35 GMT (UK)
old peron buckley was my g.grandad's brother.
there were 26 all in all apparently but i have only 12 so far. i would assume that not all of them survived either birth, or wars, or poor living conditions if there were alot of them, so im hoping that i will eventually find a few more.
i have met quite a few extended family members online through the buckleys and we have all helped and shared in the info. swapping stories, memories and even the odd photo. it has been really interesting.
on the dates of births that i i entered i have put c, next to it which signifies that the date is not accurate just a guess and also they could be baptism dates rather than birth dates. i have found that the gypsie baptised the children all in one go where-ever they had stopped at that time so some of them were up to 12 yrs old when baptised with the newest addition to the family lol.

i have peron listed as the eldest in 1857 at the moment. i have 7 sisters and 6 brothers for him.

also, my best friend is the grand-daughter of adolphus buckley, son of nathan buckely (perons other son) who was married to uni. dolfe would have been 1st cousin to your ricky/richard!!!
small world is'nt it?

Title: Re: BUCKLEY; burials. are they yours?

ok.

i have peron/perrin/perrun. (spelling often altered as its an odd name) married 15/09/1884 in offham kent to emily turner who was a widow, maiden name smith. her parents are lsited as elias & emily taylor. (i wonder if maiden name smith was maybe her mothers name or if she was widowed twice?) dont know that though. the marriage was witnessed by robert taylor and susan shaw.

i have been able to search the 1911 census, thanks to it opening early (fantastic) and it lists him as living in eastwood with his family, have copy & paste this, so it is exactly what census states;

BUCKLEY, PERRIN HEAD MARRIED  M 50 WORKING CUTTER LATIMER RD SHEPHERDS BUSH
BUCKLEY, EMILY WIFE MARRIED 26 F 51 PEDLAR HAWKER COLCHESTER EX
BUCKLEY, LOUISA DAUGHTER SINGLE  F 16 CHARWOMAN LAMBDEN END ESSEX
BUCKLEY, JOSEPH SON SINGLE  M 14 HORSE BOY CANING TOWN
BUCKLEY, THOMAS SON   M 12 SCHLOOL CANING TOWN

as you can see it does'nt show the youngest olby/holby or the eldest who by then had probably left and gottheir own families.
hang on i will look and see if any others that may be his sons and their families. back in bit.

no sorry nothing else on 1911 census for them that i have. but i did run out of credits so its possible that you could look for them on there.

i have found most of my details from searching through parish registers as thats where they got the children baptised and most of them did marry legally, not just "gypsy marriage" what ever that may be ;D

i did give you some details for john and menty though and it seems that the buckleys spent alot of time in kent, particularly at corks meadow area. well peron's family did. also southborough.
have just seen a little note that i left for myself which states this;

married to menty/minty loveridge. grandparents of N-word.
lived at 16 sutton road rochford. grave no;692
i do know that they are buried at eastwood church

stephen & alfred both baptised there 05/05/1923

i have just found this, i think it might confirm emily's name. both maiden  & married.

walter smith 18,  father  josiah smith, married to emily taylor 16, father elias taylor 10/08/1874. witnessed by william & matilda piggott. just to confuse you a bit more josiah smith was actually a buckley but used smith as alias. (so they were really walter & josiah buckley later in life and when they died.) ;)

is this helping?
dont want to confuse things and spend time typing up stuff that you dont really need.
happy to help though. having a spring clean  ::)  so will be backwards and forwards on the pc if you need any more help

Hi there,

I've only just found this site today but I think I can help, Perun Buckley was my Gt, Gt Grandfather (1857-1931) He married an Emily Turner.
His parents are Santalena Buckley (1837) and Henrietta Boswell, they did indeed have many children including Perun. I don't have all thier names but there is Pender (1866), Adalaide/Adeline (1868), Lazurus (1871), Oti (1864) plus more that I have yet to find out thier names.
"Ricky John" (John James aka Loumas) Buckley was my Gt. Grandfather and my Grandfather was Alfred Buckley (08/10/1919) He married Eileen Bolton (b.1922) and I remember her saying that my Grandad was one of 18 children, I remember some of them from when I met them as a child and other names from family stories.
It all gets very confusing as they used different names all the time and some I only know their nicknames but I'll be glad to help if I can.

While i'm on the subject does anyone have any info on Menty? I only know she was Loveridge before she married Ricky John but I have no parents or siblings. Can any one help?

Hello again and thankyou for the welcome's!  :)

I have managed (after many years) to trace my bloodline back to Joe and Laiza Buckley so I've made all the connections, now I'm filling in the rest and it's no easy task is it? I am totally bogged down with information and struggling to get it in any sort of order....and I have'nt even started on the Loveridge's yet!

The PM is a great idea, I did'nt realise I could do that, now I just have to figure out how to work it.....

Hi Donna,

I hope there is enough information about PMs in the help pages, but if not, then just ask, and someone will provide an answer.

The PMs are useful for exchanging personal data and data about living people, but   otherwise we encourage everyone to reply on topics, as you never know who else is interested or who will find the site through the "public" data (as you did :) ).
