Hi all,
I have a quandary (don't we all?!) - my father was born in Beverley in 1916, and his name was Billie Grenfell Griffin.
His mother's name was Alice Beatrice Proctor (b. 1890 Hitcham, Suffolk) and father's name was Ernest Griffin (b. 1887 Walkington, Yorkshire)
He also had a brother Eric, born in 1920.
My quandary is that I have come to a dead stop with Ernest. On the marriage certificate his father's name is shown as John, but I can't tell which John it is in the censuses (censi?)
Any directions anyone can give me?
Cheers,
Trisha

Think I have solved you problem with John Griffin. I have found him on most of the census/censii? Oh! What the heck. Would you like me to send you the original pages ?
On the 1891 John Griffin born 1860 in Denton, Huntingdonshire is married to Elizabeth born 1858 in Walkington with 4 children including Ernest born 1887 plus a lodger called Jane Richardson age 73 born Routh. All living Walkington.
I suspected that Jane was Elizabeth's mother and found the marriage of John Griffin to Elizabeth Richardson 4th quarter 1880 at Beverley. Just need to check if Jane was her mother but will do it later.
On the 1881 census John and Elizabeth are living with Thomas Landen and family in Kingston upon Hull. Their status is given as nephew and niece. I think it is John's uncle as they are both from Huntingdonshire.
Let me know if you want me to carry on and find John's parents.
Regards
Margaret

Hi Margaret,
You are a doll! Anything you can find is greatly appreciated.
I slowed down a lot on this side of my family as I just can't get enough info to guide me. All the other sides of my family I can get back to the early 1600s, so if I was doing "Who Do You Think You Are", then the Griffin chase would be the theme for my show!
So, I guess that I am saying 'Yes, please!' to anything you have, and anything you can find on John's parents.
Cheers,
Trisha

Hello Trisha:
There is a connection for sure... John Griffin married Elizabeth Richardson who is the duaghter of Edward Richardson and Jane Pape.. So the Jane Richardson listed on the 1891 census with them is in fact Elizabeth's mother...
John and Elizabeth had the following children: Ernest 1887, Jack Richardson Griffin 1890, George Thomas 1881, Jane Ann 1882, Ellen 1885, Walter 1891... Elizabeth Richardson had a son John Edward Richardson born 1879 in Walkington..
If you would like more information about the Richardson family let me know..

Does that mean you followed the Griffin line as well as the Richardson line? If you haven't I'll carry on looking for them on the censuses.
Margaret

Margaret: I only have then on the 1891 census, as I was looking for Jane Richardson and found her living with them.

Hi Trisha,
Sorry for the delay in getting back in touch, been very busy! Sorry if the following format looks familiar:
How I believe I am related: Father Tom Curtis Griffin (not Thomas) born Meaux, Beverley 1924 of Berty Griffin and Edith Annie Griffin (nee Curtis).
Grandfather Berty born Walkington (Beverley District) 1892/3 of John Griffin born Denton and Elizabeth Griffin (nee Richardson) born Beverley (1858).
Also born to John and Elizabeth: Jane Ann (Beverley District) 1882), Albert Edward 1885/6, Ernest 1887, Jack Richardson 1889/90, Bertie 1892, Thomas 1896, Robert 1899.
Don`t know where AnnMc`s info came from for Ellen 1885 or Walter 1891 (AnnMc 25/3/08). The rest is familiar to you I am sure.
Would love to hear from you regarding any missing info you might require in case I can lay my hands on it easier with being so local. Look forward to hearing from you. Brian

Hello Brian
The information regarding Ellen 1885 and Walter Griffin came from the 1901 census but I have just been doing some research and I am pretty sure that this is the wrong John Griffin family. I have not found the right family.
The parents of Elizabeth Richardson are Edward Richardson and Jane Pape who are both buried in Walkington.
Cheers

Hi Trisha,
Just noticed I've spelt Berty wrong, it should read Bertie.

Hi all,
If you are still out there I would like to get back into this. Mum is now 91 and I'm feeling that my last link to Dad will die with her (even though he is actually buried 3 kms from me!).
Now that this site has reactivated me (did not pick up on change of email - or I missed an activation one. Who knows?!) I'd like to get some more info.
Please feel free to contact me.
Thanks,
Trisha
