I'm bored! I'm fed up looking up my family with no positive result.
Anybody want a look up?
FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED
Genuine offer!
I've got about 100 credits and can't be bothered looking up any more of mine tonight!
Dave
-
That's very nice of you Dave!
-
So do you want one Ruskie?
-
I think folk might think I'm joking! I'm not!
If nobody replies soon though, I'm going off in the huff to watch a boring film or something!
I'll give it until 6.00am
Posted on Scotland- General board too but no replies there.
-
No, thanks Dave. I just think it's nice of you ;D.
I thought it was a serious offer and expect you'll be bombarded with takers ... eventually.
I take it you have asked for assistance in finding your family? There are some excellent Scottish researchers out there who'll probaby jump at the chance to narrow them down for you (specially if you have your own credits to use ;)).
Best of luck!

Hello Dave,
I'm having difficulty finding a birth/baptism for my great grandmother, Janet Carmichael. I have found birth/baptisms for all of her siblings - All Dunblane Perth Scotland, but not she.
She died October, 1912 aged 58 years and travelled to Australia, arriving in December 1858 aged 4 years, so she would have been born c1854 or possibly 1855.
Her parents were Alexander Carmichael and Helen (Ellen) Stewart. Death certificate has her place of birth as Dunblane Scotland.
Thanks Dave, it would be a wonderful if you were able to find her baptism/birth date.
All the best,
Margaret
-
Cheers Ruskie,
I've put a deadline on it now!
Maybe, I'll extend it - depends who asks!
(note to self - everyone can read this) ;D
PS How'd you make that Scottish jump! - just because I'd put it on the Scottish board?
I defy any researcher to get further back in my direct line than I've done myself!
;D

Margaret
With seconds to go Margaret.....
I'll have a look.
You've not won a prize - I just wanted something to do.....
:)
-
Margaret,
I'm sorry.
No joy.
I've tried Perths. and Fifes. both sides of '55 but no results that help you.
Different spellings.....
still no joy.
I suspect I'm duplicating things that you have looked at yourself but it never does any harm to have another look.
Sorry I haven't helped.
Thanks for giving me something to look for.
Dave.
-
Thanks Dave for trying, I do appreciate it. I agree, sometimes a fresh set of eyes can uncover things we miss whilst searching.
Having said that, do you have any elusive ancestors I could help you find?
Best wishes,
Margaret :)
-
hi daval57
have you tried looking further down your tree now that SP have indexed
birth & deaths up to 2006
i've just spent the last last 3 days going through all my books and have
found lots of info.
by talking to my mum etc. it's amazing how their memories are jogged
just by saying a possible death date for someone
but know what you mean about getting nowhere - been like that for
the last 8 months
thats why i joined RC :)
ev
-
Have I! Too true!
It's great ev, but I'm still trying to go back the way.
The additional stuff on SP has just helped me confirm dates for my uncles / aunts and great uncles / aunts.
It's also opened up some avenues to reach some living rellies.
However, it has done noubt to help me break my brick walls - my brickwall is getting past James Forrest born circa 1750 - the new records aint much help there!
Dave
ME! FRUSTRATED!
I've still got credits left folk.
PS
Rootschat is the best ever forum for genealogy AND probably the friendliest forum I've ever been on.

Hi Dave
Would you be willing to do a look up for me?
Not sure what time period your records cover - but have never found g/g/g/granny -
Martha Selfridge b circa 1820 supposed to be Glasgow
parents Paul Selfridge & Mary Palmer married 1818 in Edinburgh
Other sibs-
George c 1823
Mary c 1825
Ann c 1827
Any help appreciated
They all arrived in Sydney NSW in 1831 so missed all census records!!
Thanks
Shaz :)
-
Shaz, you're next. I'm away for a coffee first.
No promises on results, other than me having a buzz!
-
hello Dave,
I`m trying to find out what happened to wee Janet Oxley bn Avondale, 1845.
I have her birth certificate, but have been unable to find her after that.
Would there be anything in Scotlands People on her death between 1845 and 1851.
Thanks for yr offer of help.

Shaz,
Sorry.
Nothing on SP that I can see apart from the marriage on 6 july 1818 - I assume you've got that document?
Don't be disheartened though.
SP is not the be all and end all.
I tried 1553 to 1854 - NO Selfridges! That was strange! Not one!?
Using Soundex I got the following but no fathers called Paul, or mothers Palmer.
Cheers though - I found a FORREST that might link to one of my lines. - YeeHa!

I'm going out for a coffee so it may be an hour or so before I come back to the board.

Hi Hinton
Dave's stand-in here :D
SP don't do deaths until 1855 :( Have you followed her parents through the censuses?
Gadget
PS - I don't see her parents on the 1851 in either Scotland or England at the moment :-\
There is a possible Robert and Maria (not Marion) with son Robert (aged 2) - born Scotland. They're in Co Durham.
-
Hi Dave if possible would love to find a Constance Veronica Mullins born around 1900 mother Sarah Ann cant find them in Uk or Wales so ho knows maybe Scotland is where they were.
Thanks Billa 8)

Hi Dave,
Thanks so much for looking for me. Selfridge wasn't a common name in Scotland then, my Paul was born in Ireland. Although when he was transported as a convict in 1828 his wife & 4 children were living with his mother, so I expected at least 1 other Selfridge floating around.
But thanks for your generosity in using your credits :-* :-*
Cheers,
Shaz

Hi Dave,
IF you are still bored I have a family causing me problems ???
I have George Paris Salmon, (son of William Broome Salmon and Marion) Born Benares India - 17 Sept 1813 bap 7 Jan 1814 he was a Major in Bengal Artillery
married 1st wife Letitia Sandeman (6th daughter of William Sandeman) 24 Oct 1839 Bengal, she died 1852 - I don't know if there were children. ::)
He remarried Grace A. Hillhouse April 1 1855 in Kennington London (daughter of J.W. Hillhouse) She died 1898 Willanslee Perth.
My problem is using Ancestry I have found a likely entry 1861 for a George Price Salmon Living at Corsiehill House (Kinnoull ED5 line 5 Roll CSSCT1861_49) seems to fit but the 14 year old daughter Ann is a little puzzling as she was born in Perth 1847 (before first wife died) but cannot find a census for 1851 - also cannot view original for details on Ancestry :(
1871 only entry found is George C Salmon right age living at Willanslee House,
occupation (You'll like this) Retired Major Leon Baryoll Anny Adfan Volantes ??? ??? ??? Perth Burgh (ED 44 line 4 Roll CSSCT1871_67) BUT where are the family if this is correct ::) ::)
Cannot find any other entries odd because Grace didn't die until 1898 :-\ :-\ :-\
Grateful for any help
Crystal :D

Hi Daval and all,
What a nice gesture this was, Dave , but what a mess it is turning into, how many subjects are going to be on the one subject line. I think the people who have posted showuld raise new post requesting look up and close this one down. As Gadget, says people have been doing this for years, and I know she has. Please, I was going to answer a post there, but it is becoming a guddle. Nice Scottish word.
Tom
-
Agree, Tom :)
I was going to take hinton's problem and look at it in depth but a few more posts have arisen.
Think it is better to put up separate threads and then we can all concentrate on one or other or more :)
Guddle is a good word :D

Hello Dave
Tis a very nice offer - when my 18 credits run out I might add to your list - meanwhile - how do you get 100 credits? I only buy 30 at a time - do I have more "scottish" traits in regard to money than you :D
Is it cheaper if you buy in bulk?
Trish
-
Hi Trish
Dave may still be having coffee :)
I certainly buy mine in 120 or more
Here's the full choice - you know doubt know it but others might find it useful!
Also, if you belong to the Scottish Genealogy Society you can get 30 credits for £4.80 rather than £6.
Gadget :)
-
Hi Daval,
Ive PMed Josephine,I know she's has Scottish ancestors, hope you've still got some credits left...
-
Hi Dave,
I hope your offer is still going.
Just in the last hour found my Scottish connection ( from Northumberland board)
I have a Jane Reid born 1766, Scotland- married name- widow on 1841 census.
Have just discovered her children born --Chirnside, Berwickshire.
Jane, born 1796
David, born 1791,
James ?
and a possible Isabella about 1786
Have no other info or the name of Mr. Reid.
Any help appreciated.

So buying them as I do - no discount for quantity. I'll stay with my 30 at a time :) I am then more careful about their use - a true Scot :) :)

(sometimes that quote gets itself in the worng place! - can't be what I do ;D ;D )
-
Whoa!
Back refreshed but didn't expect this kinda response.
Particularly on the Lanarkshire board - where are all these queries from outside Lanarkshire coming from?
Probably me posting on the Scotland main board too. I really need to think about what I'm doing sometimes.
Trish, If I buy 30 credits, I go through them in 10 minutes sometimes, so I buy them in bulk to save me going for my wallet all the time to get my credit card - I can never remember the card number.
However, last night, I got bored looking up my ain folk so made the offer, without thinking. Me - Mouth - FOOT!
Anyway - still happy to do some other look-ups - but as suggested - any requests from now on would be best placed on the appropriate board.
I'll work through existing ones on here in the order they came in until my money or patience runs out.
Dave
Sorry, if I've caused problems - how many times do I need to apologise before I get things right!! ::)

Should have said - i'd checked as well - nearest i could get were Mcmullans but the first names were wrong :(

Hi Dave
Thank you for the offer. If you have any left and are still willing to do it, I have me gran . Are they available yet do you know for 1908. She was born April 23, 1908 Cathcart.

Still looking at this one - the image on SP for the 1861 census is far from clear.
SP has the head as George Paris Salmon - East Indies B subject
Grace Ann(e) wife 27 - England
Kathrine daughter 18 - East Indies B subject
Marion daughter 16 - ditto
Ann daughter 14 - see image - Perthshire 'can't make out - NOT Kinnoull'
Henry son 5 scholar - ditto
' ? ' looks like None but really can't make that out - daughter 3 - ditto
' ? ' son 3 months - Perthshire Kinnoull
Mary Ann Morrison? servant - widow 27 - Edinburgh
Isabella ditto servant 22 housemaid - ???
Anne Salmon was born May 1846 to George Paris Salmon, Captain of the Bengal Artillery and Letitia Sandeman, his spouse, and baptised 5 July 1846
Can't find Ann(e) in 1851 - checked for Salmon (and Sandeman just in case) - nothing.
I'm confused now. Not sure what I'm looking for anymore......
It's obviously clearer in your mind - does any of this help? Anything else specifically you want me to check Crystal?

SALMON
LDS has 4 christenings to George Salmon and Letitia:
William Hearsey, Catherine and Marian all christened 13/7/45
and Anne christened 5/7/46

Linda - see my comment on post #30 - new threads please.
Having said that - I've got you on my "Cathcart" list - so will look at you separately.
No more requests on this thread please - I'll tidy up what's here as best as I can.
Dave
Modified - this isn't very tactful - not directed at Linda. Just don't want any new requests. Sorry Linda. Dave :-*
-
Thank you so much for your generous help Dave,
I agree about being confused, that why I thought I needed to put so much information ::) SORRY ::)
The information about Ann(e) birth and bapt. was interesting so George and 1st wife must have been in Scotland around 1847?
I would like (if at all possible) to know whether the family or 2nd wife showed up in 1871 other than the one I found and do they show up in 1881or 1891?
Many thanks Crystal :D
-
Just a suggestion to Crystal
Why not ask on the Military Board for regiments postings, if someone can help. It will help narrow down where they were in the years.
Linda
-
Time for a break folks - I'll revisit thread later.
Dave
Thanks for the suggestion Linda - great idea.
-
I don't know what happened there! when I first looked there was no clip of census info ???
So now I have looked I think it's Perth, Perthshire for Ann(e) thank-you
The printed version I have of 1861 has Nona Salmon age 3 and Mortennt (I think this should be Mourdant) Rynnd (?) Salmon age 3 months
and Doh ::) LDS I was so busy looking at India records transcribed on British Library site I completely overlooked them.
Thank you for that and there's the missing William Hearsey Salmon ;D I can fit him in now ;D
Crystal :D
-
:D Thanks Linda good idea,
I have been getting a lot of information from when the family was in India, these are the first in a long while to come "home"
My interest started with George's father who married a "Hearsey" whom I had been researching, I then came across a book published in 1905 entitled "The Hearseys Five Generations". I am now totally hooked because of the tales about their lives and how all these others fit in :o
I have just found out that further back Theophilus Hearsey was a Jacobite and led his family to battle at Culloden 1746. I think I will be buying credits for SP soon.
Sorry about ramblings, got carried away in the excitement ::) ::)
Crystal :D
-
Dave,
Are you still doing look-ups? If yes, may I post my request?
Thanks,
Josephine
P.S. I'm sorry. I just re-read this thread more carefully and saw that you didn't want any more requests on this thread. (Ooops!) I'll post a request on the Edinburgh Board in case you still have credits and still feel like doing look-ups.
-
Thread finished
I will of course continue to try and assist on other threads, along with the many other helpful RC'ers out there.
