Hi all,
I know one of you will be able to find my mystery man! I'm going round in circles - and I think I've been looking at him for so long I've probably missed the obvious..........
William Laurence, Born 1850ish in Garford or Shrivenham, so Oxfordshire or Berks I think.
He turns up on the 1881 census :
RG11/1289 Folio 52 Page 5
as a groom at stables in Lambourn, but previous to that I'm struggling. His eldest daughter is Henrietta - so I'm wondering if he is a Henry William or William Henry (or both, I have rather a lot of those) :-\
Any help gratefully recieved!!!

Hi there
1871: RG10 P 1257 Fol 108 Pg 12
surname Laurence, birth Shrivenham 1852, farm servant ? ?
I know he says Garston in 1881, but you also mentioned Shrivenham
-
Ok, is that the sole census that he appears on?
What trher info do you already have? certs/ parish records?
What particular help (which resources) are you hoping we might find?

Have you seen this:
IGI, extracted,
Baptism William Henry Lawrence 3 Nov 1850 Shrivenham, parents William lawrence and Susanna.
6 siblings 1840 - 1860 search
-
Thanks Mum (!)
yes I thought that was probably maybe possibly him, which is why I put Shrivenham also - checked the map and thay are not too far apart........
Pauline - I'm looking for some fresh eyes I think! I have him on these two census, I have his daughter Henrietta Olives Marriage Cert, where he is William Laurence, Stableman.
And thats it.
He must be somewhere, but it seems a really common name...... so which one is he, I guess I need to know. His chidrens names may help as my lot seem religious in all having the same names from one generation to the next........ Although he might be the exception I guess...
They are, Henrietta Olive, Willemiene B, Frederick Archiebald and Lillian.

BE CAREFUL with the bap - don't try and make it fit your ideas!
1891: Rg12 P 1292 Fol 129 Pg. 13
Newmarket, Suffolk
They're all there, BUT William says aged 29 born Abington, Berks
He's working as a groom in a racing stable.
-
he's beginning to give me a headache!
only 17 when Henrietta was born? possible I guess :-\
Fibbing about his age? possible. ::)
Can't remember where hes born? well they're all at it! but garford and abingdon only 4 miles apart so all ok there.
Going to do some more hunting with the new dob then!

Don't know, Molly. 11 years is a big age difference - ???
Meanwhile, found 3 of them in 1901:
Rg13. 1131. Fol 97 Pg. 15
Frederick age 16, born Hampstead Norris. Stble lad at hamilton Tables, Compton
RG13. 111 Fol 88 Pg 10
Lilian M. age 18. Nurse Domestic in Silchester, Hants
RG13. 1175 Fol 57 Pg 6.
Olive age 42, Mar. Cook Domestic in Staines.
Can't see the others - and NB Olive says married not Wid. although she may have been.
-
Thank you so much! Its great to get a handle on the rest of them!
Relly dont know what to do about William though........
You dont think the lovely Olive could have married two different William Laurences that were born 11 years apart do you!!! Cos the 1891 CLEARLY says he's 29, and the 1881 is just as clear that he's 31.......... and he was obviously hidden in a cupboard up until then!! :o
There should be a death cert or a marriage cert for them somewhere at least shouldn't there?
Blinkin' rellies............ ::)
Just keep digging I guess. Wouldn't be as much fun if they were all easy.......... ;)

Hello again Molly -
Well, I've looked and I can't find a William marrying an Olive.
If no-one else can find it for you, you might have to get one of the children's births to find her maiden name and go from there
-
Sorry it's been a while Mum!
PC poorly.
I'll try that then. Henrietta Olives Birth Cert would be a nice one to add to the collection!
Thanks again.
