Yes there are lots of Bowes around. In fact there is a Bowe family reunion in Ireland in July. Please re-post for more information.

I have a Katherine Bowe 1821-1887 married to Patrick Kealy 1817-1901 both born in Kilkenny and migrated to australia so i would love to find a connection.

I was intrigued to find all your messages in this thread. I have a big Bowes and Bowe surname project going. I hope you will visit the website and become familiar with the kind of information we are collecting. There is a group of people with Bowes and Bowe surname from Kilkenny and surrounding counties whom I've been in touch with over the years. Quite a few of them have joined our DNA project and we are beginning to establish several separate genetic lines from that area, researching early origins and family connections. I am intrigued to find another line in this message thread. I wonder if any of you still have a living male in your family with the last name Bowe who could take part in the DNA project. If you know your male Bowe immigrant (date of immigration, places etc.) I can also add that information to the appropriate immigrant page.
Sincerely, Martha Bowes

Is this the US census? What state? Or is it Great Britain?

U.S. census would have been 1870 not 1871- looks like 1871 English census.

Thanks, good point.

I realize this is an old post.

The NLI parish registers will open up new avenues of research for old threads.
Some Bowes were registered as Boa in the Gowran parish records
