Hi George  :)

I think it came from the place name:

I'm trying to finda website for you but it must have been the town/settlement of Samuel!

Added - I can find all sorts of shops, estate agents, dating, etc. but nothing on it's origins or history  :-\

Hi George  :)

I'm not sure that all those with the surname Samuel are related. However, it might be worth putting up your interest on the One Name Interests Board:

or you could do a search for anyone here:

or have a look at the GOONS site:

Are your ancestors from Samuelston?

dating back to 1650 they have been in many parts of East Lothian , especially around the Haddington and Prestonpans areas. Mostly Farm workers , which makes me wonder if a Samuel lived in the hamlet or possibly a number of them which is maybe why it became known as Samuel town ? haha just a wild guess but you never know !
