Title: Date of photograph?
Post by: JFarrell36 on Thursday 24 January 08 20:23 GMT (UK)
Could someone help me to date this photograph please? The photo will enlarge when clicked upon. I would like to know a rough date so that I can attempt to match it into my family tree. Thanks.

Hi JF, a lovely photo...I hope you will do a hi-res scan of it and post it for restoration...

Judging by the woman's hairstyle and her blouse/skirt combination, I'd make a guess at about 1905-1910 or so...being able to see the length of the skirt would be nice, but since I can't, that's my best guess.

Cheers,
China

Thanks China. We're not sure who the couple are but the man's face really draws me in every time I look at it. I think he's got amazing eyes. I haven't got a scanner - is there any other way I can do a hi-res image for restoration?

Well, I think you really need a scanner, but you might try posting the image held by the image host and see what the restorers can do with it, you might get lucky :D

Cheers,

They are both wearing flowers...could it be a wedding?

High necks like that were only just managing to hang on in 1913, so I would say around the 1910 mark.

Hi I have a picture of my Gran wither her eldest Son born in 1902.  The picture must have been taken about 1907/8 + because Uncle is 5/6 years old!

Her parents portrait pictures taken at around the same time, because the suit of the man is almost identical to that of the man in the picture.

Was his hair the normal style for the time? We all thought it was quite radical!

Yes I think so, certainly my G.Grandfather, his sons and my Uncle as a boy all had short hair like this.

Have you considered that this chap might have been ill and lost his hair?  It looks as if it is very thin on top, possibly a regrowth!

Could be my eyes though!  :-\

JF, you aren't getting much action in the way of restores...you might want to repost this in another thread and ask for a restore, as the title of this thread suggests you only want dating done.

You will have to change the filename of the photo slightly. Or I can do it, or jc could if you PM her.

Cheers,
China

It's fine - I really wanted a date. I have others which I would rather have restored. Thanks for the offer though.
