Hi Bubs,
Sorry, but the only Cain I found on the Cd in the 40s was a Valda Cain.
This does not mean that your Albert Edward Cain is not there, sadly only graves with headstones are listed on the CD.
Cheers

Hi
I can't help with the look up but there is a location.
Quallee Place [in the suburb of] Engadine.  South east of Sydney City

http://www.whereis.com

Also in the white pages directory online there is an address for Mellor in that suburb.  A call or note might pay off.

Cass,

Thanks so much for that very useful information! I had actually visited the Catholic site the previous day, but had failed to notice that a deceased search was available.

I had, over the years, checked periodically for online Rookwood resources, but to no avail. It is wonderful that this resource is available.

BTW, I DID find the information on both my great-grandparents - one on the Catholic site and one on the Independent site (religion separated them in death as it had in life - after 10 children, they parted ways).

Meegan,

Thanks kindly for the offer to stop in at Woronora - much appreciated.

I've just learned that a cousin in Sydney (I'm in Canada) is willing to go by there, and that apparently it is not that far from where she lives.

However, if that doesn't happen for some reason, I would love to take you up on your offer - which reinforces what I've always believed, that the genie community is one of the very best I know for helping one another.

Thanks again,

That's fine, if your cousin doesn't get there quick enough for you just let me know, as i said i go past every couple of weeks on the way to visit my parents.

I like to go and visit my relos there every now and again I have a chat with them.  see if they can give me any hints to find things, I swear one lot of great grandparents have been helping me.  now i need to get another great grandfather to let me know where to look for his birth.

I agree the genies are a very helpful lot.

Darlene,

Thanks so much for this information.

With regard to Nellie Evans you mentioned, I wonder if you could give me the details there too please.     I know her husband's name was Bert, but there could be a William in his name as well.

I'm not sure of dates of death, but would imagine 1970's, it could be that they were cremated.

Hi Darlene,

I recently got some information from you in regard to New family, since then I'm getting emails regarding  queries from other people, can you help me please so that I don't keep on getting emails.

Don't know how this happened, I'm not very computer literate.

Hi Jan,

I hope this works for you?

Hi,

I have just discovered this wonderful site and wonder could somebody find for me Joseph Dean who died 27 Feb 1947, and his wife Bridget who died July 1972. I know they are buried at Rookwood and I would very much like to have the wording of the inscription on their gravestone.

Thank you,

Rosndel

Hello Rosndel,
Yes, visitng would be great.
I live in Sydney and plan a trip out there each month, but never seem to make it!
In the last couple of years I have attended many funerals at Rookwood, but again not the right time...

Darlene, when I opened up my family history program to put in the details of Uncle Joe Dean's grave I found that their daughter also appears to be buried at Rookwood.

She is Irene may Hunter, DOD 26 Feb 1986, and her husband George Henry Hunter, DOD 19 Feb 1983. If it is not too much trouble I would really like to have that info too.

Thankyou,

Rosndel

Hello Darlene

I first asked about Sally Fieldhouse (see post no. 34) on 3rd Jan 08.
Since then I have got the death cert for Sally Fieldhouse and it states she died on 25 Aug 1903 and is buried at Church of England Cemetery, Rookwood.  Date of burial is 26th Aug 1903. Are there two cemeteries at Rookwood.  I'm a bit confused here  ???
Undertaker was Charles Kinsela.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Chris

Rookwood is a HUGE Cemetery, it is divided into sections each area administered by their own trust, so you have the Roman Catholic area, the Church of England area, Jewish , Independant (Methodist, Baptist Presbyterian) etc etc area.  So Death Certificates may record a person being  buried in the Church of England or maybe the Roman Catholic Cemetery at Rookwood.

As each Section have their own Office and keep their own records, if you only know that the person was buried at "Rookwood" but are not sure of which section, you have to contact each Office to find the location of a grave.

The Crematorium also keep their own records.

If you wish you could down load Google Earth (it is free) and it will give you an idea of the area Rookwood covers,  it is the size of a normal suburb, full of roundabouts and one way streets.

Hope this helps

Cass

Hi Cass,
Thanks for letting me know all that about Rookwood.  I will have a look on Google Earth.  Maybe I should  be contacting  the Church of England section at Rookwood to find out a plot number.

Cheers, Chris

Hi Darlene
Could you possibly have a look so see if there is a transcript for a MARY HATTON who died in 1926.   Mary's husband was Thomas A Hatton.

Hi Darlene I hope all is well with you now. I know you couldn't find my relatives(Rosebridge). As I was going down to Sydney (we live in QLD) and try to visit the cemetery I thought I would ring the cemetery office and they were able to tell me my GGrandfather and G.Uncle were "scattered to the four winds" so it saved me a wasted visit as there was no plaque. Thought this may be of some use to people looking for plaques.

Hi Darlene,

If you're still doing Rookwood lookups, would you mind searching for:

Emma Ivanhoe HARDWICK d 1957

Thankyou

Tom

I had a look on the Rookwood disk and sorry to say no records for Emma
Hardwick, remember it only records details of headstones, if no headstone there would be nothing on the disk and it does not include details of the memorial plates at the Crematorium.

Have you checked the Catholic and the Independant sites, you can do a burial search for those sections of the Cemetery on line

Good Luck

Cass

Hi Cass,

Thanks for having a look  :) No luck on the Catholic site, or Eastern Suburbs Crem., but there are only so many cemeteries in Sydney, right? (he says  :P)

All the best,
