Title: Abergwili Monuments
Post by: ludovica on Wednesday 23 January 08 12:28 GMT (UK)
Last November I was lucky enough to be able to make a weekend visit to Wales, primarily to see the Monuments in Abergwili Church to the Philipps family. While there I also visited the Museum  and sadly there was no-one there who could answer my query, Carmarthen Library was closed for refurbishment, so I was unlucky there too

There is a large Baroque monument high on the wall of the Church (in the Philipps family pew) which we were unable to decipher and I am desperate to know whose it is, also another high up near the Church door.
My other query was wanting a comprehensive list of interments in the Philipps vault.

Is there anyone out there who can enlighten me?
Anyone out there researching Philipps of Cwmgwili, Stedman of Dol-y-Gaer, Gwyn(ne) of Cynghordy and Glanbran?

Hi ludovica,

I've been to Abergwili today and taken photos of the monuments; they are still not perfectly readable, but you might be able to decipher most of it given time.

If you PM me with your e-mail address I'll send them on to you.

Do you want the photos of all of them, or do you already have the rest?

Also, do you have photos of the graves in the churchyard?

The Warden was unable to help with the list of interments in the vault, but they are in Aberystwyth and also Carmarthen.

Bev.

That's great Bev. I'd love to see your pics, (e-mail in private message). It is sad that Carmarthen Library was closed when I went, but they should be reopening fairly soon if not already

I stood on the pews - after asking, and removing my shoes of course!  ;D

That was quite brave, I'm not good with heights, not even something like that. I have to get my daughter to do anything involving climbing!
I cannot thank you enough, Bev. It's people like you that make internet genealogy so rewarding and worthwhile. You are a STAR! :-*
