Am looking for info on John Ruane born 1873 and who married Annie Hoyle in 1902
His father was Patrick Ruane (unknown birth date)
Any info please
-
John's birth certificate will list his parents, father's occupation, exact date and placce of birth. Try searching for extracted birth record on IGI at www.familysearch.org

Apologies, my line just dropped out as I was posting. Both dates should read 1873.

note; you might be better off posting on County Mayo section.

Thanks for the info but I am still searching as there were a lot of Ruanes and a singular lack of imagination regarding first names.
I have a marriage certification showing John Ruane was married to Annie Hoyle in St Michaels Church on 26th Nov 1902 in the presence of James Earley and Mary Caffrey. I know that his father was Patrick (from the same cert) and Annes father was Henry Hoyle but I have no proof as yet of his mother who I think was Mary Healy.
I have details of his descendants up to the present day in case anyone is interested.
Any other hints would be appreciated.
Thank you

Hi Michaelx, do you know where in County Mayo the family are from? As for singular a lack of imagination when it comes to names - tell me about it. Our lot were truly hopeless. There are Ruanes everywhere in Mayo. You really need to pin point an area so you are able to find the relevant church and it's records.
Have a look at the following websites:
1901 Leitrim Roscommon has a fully transcribed index for Mayo:
http://www.leitrim-roscommon.com/1901census/census
Griffiths Valuation which was a land valuation around 1850s has an index at :
http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php
Were they Catholic or Protestant? The only other way I can think of at the moment is ordering up the film from Latter Day Saints for the relevant years and going through it. www.familysearch.org
Was John and Annie's marriage conducted in the UK or Mayo? If it was the UK, have you been able to find them on the UK 1901 Census?
I think I have asked enough quetions for the moments.

Thanks for your help and suggestions. So far still no joy.
John Ruane & Annie Hoyle were married in St Michaels (RC) Newcastle on Tyne on 26th Nov 1902
John shows up on the 1901 cenus with his brother Michael, Ages 24 and 2, respectively as coal miners living in digs at Orchard Terrace Lemington.
The entry indicates that they were both born in Gleanllen, Mayo (or something like that as the entry is not easy to read) . However I am unable to identify anywhere that looks remotely like that. It has been suggested that this may have been a farm or a remote hamlet that no longer exists. No church is mentioned that I have found so far.
Family lore says that the birthplace was Ballina. But again no details have been found.
Annie Hoyle shows up living in the same area, Lemmington, which is part of Newcastle, working in an asylum and it would appear that this was a move from the Lancashire area where she also worked at the infamous (now) Goosenargh Asylum.
As before any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello. It looks like 'Glencullen' to me (but that's only my opinion) and that place is way out west of Ballina between Bangor Erris and Belmullet. Does any of this mean anything to you? I will double check and get back to you. Maybe someone else will have a look and say what they think.

Looks good.
Thanks for the help

Michael, the actual spelling is Glencullin - there is Upper and Lower Glencullin (the enumerator would have spelt it as he heard it)
Civil Parish of Kilcommon
Barony of Erris
Poor Law Union Belmullet
Catholic Diocese Killala
Catholic Parish (1) Kilcommon-Erris (2) Belmullet
I think this is the LDS film No: 127905 and that should have Baptisms from 1859 and Marriages 1860.
There is another Glencullin between Westport and Louisburg.
Civil Parish of Glencullin
Barony of Murrish
Poor Law Union Westport
Catholic Diocese Tuam
Catholic Parish Louisberg (Kilgeever)
(this area would make more sense, but a lot further from Ballina)
I'm just a bit concerned that there is no other info to 'prove' the Ruane name against these areas. Was Patrick a farmer? or did they live in the villages and work as labourers. Were there any other children left behind that you could check on the 1901 Mayo Census (gave you the web site - see above)
I'll keep checking. Happy hunting

I don't know if this is of any use to you. My family have lived in Glencullen Lower, Co Mayo for a number of generations and in the late 1800s a Ruane family lived in a stone cottage in a field now owned by my family. There are still the remains of stone cottages in that field today. My Dad didnot know what happened to the Ruane family as this would have been in my great-grandmother's time. He assumed that the Ruane family had died out.

just to say it looks like Glencullen to me too.

The 1901 Leitrim Roscommon census site is up and running again now:
Shows a Pat Ruane 58 yrs in Glencullin lower with wife Bridget and a family of several children including a John aged 12 yrs and a Michael 9 yrs. :( That puts that one out of the picture.

Hi everyone
I have Ruane in my family tree, my mother in law was a Ruane from Lismulvee. Her parents were
James Ruane born 1876
Mary Connor born 1878.
I found them on The census, but cannot find any further info regarding Mary. James I have found on LDS site and I know that 2 of his sisters Maimie and another poss Catherine went to USA but they are proving difficult.
Does anyone know how I can find out how they got to USA and when?
James parents were John Ruane born about 1848 and Margaret Walsh. I would love find any info re John as at the moment I have nothing. How can I find a marriage cert for them
All these questions!!
