We are quietly confident that we know of the dates of their deaths and burials (William - 17/1/49?? and Sarah 5/12/37)
With regard to other children, they also has Nellie (born before Sidney) and Freda. We have relevant info on Freda as this was my grandmother.

Hi Debbie,
Thank you for your assistance. It all appears to fit in well. However I have one question (sorry if I am being a little thick) but from previous info gathered regarding Sarah and Ellen's marraiges (in 1891 and 1894 respectively) it states that their father Philip was a bricklayer but having receieved your info it appears that he died in 1888. Surely on the marriage certificate it would state 'deceased' or would they put in his occupation when he was alive??? Any more info you are able to give on any of the viners would be much appreciated..
Thanks again
Gill ;D ;D
-
Hi Gill
wether they wrote the occupation or deceased on the marriage, when the father was already dead seems to have been pretty random and up to the person officiating at the marriage, there are many cases in the Abingdon records and others where the occupation is put in just as if the father was still alive.
:)
Debbie
-
Oh ok thanks for that.. in that case it seems incredibly likely that this is the viner family we are after... things are looking up.. ;D

I think this would be Martha with her family in 1841 in Wootton in Oxfordshire - I wondered which Wootton it was cos there's one in Berkshire as well that is closer to Abingdon - but it appears its the Oxfordshire one which ties in with Woodstock for the registration district on the marriage
from 1841 census - Wootton Oxfordshire

Hannah Benbow 35
William Benbow 12
Sarah Benbow 10
Mary Benbow 8

Martha Benbow 1
At the moment I can't find the family in 1851 or 61 - but John and Hannah were still alive cos I've found them in 1871 still in Wootton - though all the children have left home

Hi everybody,
sorry, I'm not sure how all this works, but I am happy to share what I have.A lot of what I have is from Ancestry.co.uk. & freebmd.I was born in England but am now living in New Zealand. My husband & I have made 2 trips to England. 2005 & 2007.We spent quite a lot of time in Abingdon. We got a lot of information at the Temple Cowley Archives in Oxford. Also the Library in Oxford & the Archives at Reading. All were great & provided different types of information.
I now have 12 children for Philip Viner 1834 & Martha Benbow.
Philip is the second child of Philip Viner born 12 October 1806 ( Chr 19 Oct) Appleford & Mary Fidler married 19 Dec 1829 Sutton Courtney.
Philip 1806 is the son of William chr 20 Dec 1780 Sunningwell & Fanny Hunt married 12 October 1801 St Giles Oxford. I have 4 children for them.
William 1780 is a son of John Viner chr 22 Jul 1733 South Hinksey who married Elizabeth Bright 30 October 1763 Sunningwell. John 1733 is the son of John & Catherine. They had 5 children. John Viner & Elizabeth Bright had 10 children.
Where I come in: My Cathrine Viner 1771 is a sister of William 1780 (who married Fanny Hunt.) Catherine Viner married Benjamin Calladine 18 Dec 1792 St Helen's Abingdon. There daughter Sarah Calladine married William Trinder.I am descended from their only living child Hannah Trinder who married James Lefevre.Their daughter Rose Ann Lefevre is my mother's paternal grandmother.I shall try & attatch a photo of her.
#1 Mum & her gran Rose Ann Lefevre
#2 Mum & her father Walter Cottenden.
I would love to exchange photos.I'm not sure if it is permissable to exchange email addresses.I would be happy to do that. Please let me know what else any body would like.

Hi Martines,
I have posted quite a long entry any offers apply to you also. I am not sure how Ada Florence Elizabeth Viner fits in are you able to tell me who her parents were?
Mary
-
Wow seems that there have been quite a few new replies since I last logged in.
Martines - Just a quicky. Did Ada Florence ever reside at Mayotts Road in Abingdon and have two daughters Jean and Betty??? If so, she would appear to be one of my mum's 2nd or 3rd cousins.
Petera66it - You certainly have done your homework.... this is great what you have managed to find out and has helped us along with our family tree also. My mum's great grandparents were Martha and Philip Viner. One of their children was Sarah who married William STIMPSON. One of their children Freda then married Albert Oliver and their only child, my mum, was born
-
Yes that's right! Jean was the youngest child and also my maternal grandmother whom sadly passed away about a year ago now. I was very close to her and spent lots of time with her as a child. I have some lovely stories!
There was also a son born to Ada who was called Phillip. Betty and Phillip are also deceased.
Ada and her husband share the same grave at the New cemetary on Spring Road in Abingdon. Betty and Phillip are also burried there in nerby graves.
So would your mother be Freda Stimpson? I shall ask my mother as i'm sure it may ring a bell.
Also i have just read back through all the messages and sorry for being a little slow, but am i right in thinking that there are in fact 2 Philips Viners? One with connections in Appleford and married to Mary Fiddler and the other with Abingdon connections married to Martha Benbow? Can you tell me how these two chaps fit together? Are they brothers?
Thank you so much.
-
Perhaps you could help out with the Stimpson connection?
I'm really interested to know if William Stimpson had any brothers. In particular a brother called George? If so, this could possibly be my husbands paternal grandfather.
Thanks for your help.
Martine
-
Hi.. Martines.
No, my mother is not Freda Stimpson but is infact Freda's only daughter Pauline (so Freda was my Grandmother).
Freda married my grandfather Albert Oliver (I am not sure which year, I will need to check) and had the just the one child Pauline, who was born in 1941. Unfortunately Freda died relatively young in age when my mother was 17.
My mother is now married to a SMALL.
With regard to the Stimpson side of things I am experiencing problems myself.. we know that there was a William Stimpson somewhere but not sure which of the records we come across are him as there seem to be so many.
-
Sorry I omitted to include the part about the Philip Viners.
It would appear that there were indeed 2 Philip Viners but they were infact father and son. Philip Viner Senior was born around about 1806 and married Mary Fidler in 1829 and Philip Viner Junior (Philip and Mary's Son) was born about 1832 and Married Martha Benbow in 1858.
Hope this has helped.
Many Thanks

Hi Mary, as you say, you are directly descended from Rose Ann Lefevre, daughter of Hannah Trinder and James William Lefevre.
I am also descended from James and Hannah but via one of their sons, Mark James Lefevre, b. 2 Aug 1862. I'd love to know more about Rose and her birth/death dates as I did not have Rose in the family tree. The records that I have for the children of James and Hannah are as follows:
Charles Inkerman b. 1 feb 1857
James b. Jan 1859 d. 3 Apr 1859
Thirza b. 2 Feb 1860 d. Mar 1862
Mark James b. 2 Aug 1862 d. 13 Jul 1941
Alma b. 10 Jul 1864 d. Dec 1892
Hannah b. 17 Jun 1866
I have James William Lefevre's parents as Edmund Le fevre and Charlotte. I have Hannah Trinder's parents as William Trinder and Sarah Calladine as well, so I'm sure we have the same tree.
I have some photos of Mark James Lefevre and his wife Lucy Susannah Tubbs too
-
Hi Gravois,
I am so thrilled to hear from you. This is a MAJOR breakthrough. My Mum often spoke of her Uncle(great uncle) Mark who was her Granny's brother. She always remembered him as being "well turned out",Probbly in a white shirt & tie.She remebers going to a Christmas Pantomime some years when she was a young child with one of his daughters.Minnie died very young so it could have been Mable Sarah or Gertrude.
I would be absolutely delighted to see some photos. And I know that Mum would be over the moon. I have a photo of Edward Lefevre born 1800 Portsmouth. How much of my tree have you seen? or is it just what I have posted on this site?
I would like to send you some photos of Mum with Rose Ann.In one Mum is about 12, maybe younger.Gran died when Mum was about 12.
The other is Mum (on the left) & her cousins who are sisters. They are grandaughters of George William Cottenden, brother of Mum's father, Walter, who are sons of Rose Ann.They won't send perhaps because I have already posted them.
Love to share info with you.Do you live in England?
Look forward to hearing back from you
Mary

Hi Mary
(and sorry to everyone else for briefly diverting this thread a little)
I'm new to the site as well and can't work out how to reply to the personal message you sent me? Can you send your email to me via the personal message board and i'll reply directly as soon as I can and send you photos directly. I did download the two images you uploaded to this thread but I'd love to see more, especially Edward's photo. FYI Alma Mary Lefevre (another of Mabel and Gertrudes sisters) is my great grandmother. Ive also been in touch with a lady called Estelle Sandles who is Mabel's daughter, so another person related distantly to you.

Hi David
I have just joined and I am not certain how this all works - I guess I will learn as I go along.
Edward LeFevre born 1800 in Portsmouth was my gt, gt grandfather.
I have spoken to Mary before - things went cold when we hit a brick wall some time ago.
I would love to see photo of Mark James and his wife.
Best wishes
Pauline
-
Dear David
My gt, gt grandfather was Edmund/Edward LeFevre born Portsmouth 1800.
I can see where you fit into the family. I don't know if you are advanced enough to know where I fit it. How much LeFevre research have you done to date? You might need to take it easy - there are quite a few of us out there. I know Mary in New Zealand, whom I think you have been in touch with.
I would love to see a picture of Mark James.
Best wishes
Pauline

Hi everyone I am also a decendant of Edward/Edmund Lefevre, born about 1800 in Portsmouth. I am also in New Zealand but would love to make contact with anyone related to this line. Chat soon. Amy. Pls feel free to email me amyhowell08@yahoo.co.nz.
