Hi Georgie
Sorry we haven't been able to help you so far on this one.
Have you made any progress, or do you have any further details that could help someone to find what you are looking for?
Look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes

Hello Ticker,
Sorry for the delay in replying, but I have been in hospital and now I am fine.
As yet I haven't had any response to my posting. The only other information I have is that James was a retired soldier and when he died in 1864 the entry in the death register was for the Parish of Row in the County of Dumbarton and the address he died at was given as
Glasgow Street, Helensburgh (Ava Cottage, I think).
When Alice died in 1870 the same address was given.
After 1870 other members of the family lived at Ava Cottage, although not Willox's.
I assumed that Ava Cottage had been a family home for
many years, but of course I could be wrong.
Like many other researchers I will be happy when all the census for Scotland appear online on the Scotlandspeople website, but yet again it has now been put back to
Summer 2005, although I can appreciate all the work involved in getting them online.
Kind regards
Georgie :)

Hello Georgie,
I have only just come across your January request and hope the following will be of help and interest. My great-great-grandfather's brother, Hugh Locke Anderson, married Helen Willox in December 1847. She was the daughter of John Willox and Janet Steel and was born 4 August 1825. Hugh Locke Anderson died, as a widower, at Ava Lodge (note name change) 14 Glasgow Street, Helensburgh, on 11 January 1888. Before that the house is called Ava Cottage in Post Office directories until 1884.
Kind regards, Albert

I am so sorry mrst and Albert, I have only just come across
your replies to my posting.
mrst - Yes, I think it was known either as Rhu or Row, I have
seen both of the names on the scotlandspeople website.
Albert - Helen Willox who married Hugh Locke Anderson was
niece to my ancestor James Willox. When James' wife, Alice (nee Thwaites), died in February 1870 the address given in the death register was Ava Cottage, Helensburgh in the Parish of Row.
kind regards
