Title: PITTY Family - Chishill, Essex/Ashwell, Herts
Post by: hclar1 on Wednesday 16 January 08 03:00 GMT (UK)
I am trying to find information about the ancestry of my 3 great grandmother, Ellen (or possibly Eleanor) Pitty.  According to census data, she was born in Chishill, Essex but I know she was married in Ashwell, Herts, to where her family seems to have moved.  I think her father's name was George and that she had two brothers, George and James.  Can anyone shed any light on this family for me?  I have the details of her marriage and offspring but would really like to know about her parents, siblings, etc.  Any information would be very welcome.

Many thanks in advance  :)

If we're talking about the Ellen Pitty on the IGI marrying Thomas Flitton 27 Oct 1814 in Ashwell, Herts, then using that as a peg for the timeframe and assuming she would have been at least 16 at the time of the marriage, I can't see any Ellen Pitty or similar on the IGI in Essex.

There are two vague matches for an Ellen with a father George:
Helen Petty/Pettyt bapt. 2 Sep1781 Cowthorpe, Yorkshire
Helena Justin Petty, bapt 13 Feb 1785 St Martin's in the Fields, Westminster

I doubt this helps much.  Sorry.

You probably need to follow up the Essex connection in parish registers

Thanks Aulus, that is the Ellen Pitty.  There is no mention of her father in the marriage record so I am assuming she was over 21 at that time.  Based on census data, she seems to have been born in either 1789 or 1790.

Hi

As you seem to be researching the ancestry of Ellen PITTY which clearly is in Essex, I am going to move this post over to the Essex board for you.  I have deleted your duplicate post from the Essex board as it has not yet had any replies.

We prefer members not to make duplicate posts as this can often result in members fruitlessly going over the same ground unaware that this has been covered by others.  It is far better to post on one board and if a query is not doing particularly well there, asking a member of the moderating team to move it for you.

Kind Regards
Rick :)
