Title: Baptism Charlton on Otmoor - HARRIS
Post by: Julieharris on Monday 14 January 08 20:33 GMT (UK)
I am looking for a baptism of:

Arthur Harris

Born. August 2nd 1869.

1869 is taken from the 1871 and 1881 census so not 100% sure.
August 2nd is taken from a family bible but the year is not showing.

I am trying to establish who his parents were.

Thank you.

Hi Julie,

I have the Charlton on Otmoor birth register and the is no Arthur Harris baptised in 1869 on the next years.  The nearest one I can find is baptised on 1 June 1873.  Unfortunately that particular entry read '??P...? Harris for the mother.  I guess it was unreadable to the transcriber.  The lack of a listing for the father implies this was an illegitimate child.

Hi Julie,

Isnt he living with his parents in 1871 Census?
What is his POB in 1871/1881?
Where is he living?
If we can have these details may be able to help :)

Cheers,
Trish

There are only 3 Arthur Harris births reg 1869/1870

Arthur John, June 1869 (too early if Bible shows born August)
Arthur John, June 1870 (too late)

So this leaves;
Arthur Loosley HARRIS, September 1869, Thame, 3a 565

Frederick HARRIS married Mary LOOSLEY, December 1859, Thame, 3a 914
They appear on 1871 Census with son Arthur aged 1 year, 6mths.
RG10/1341/10/12

Is this the Census you refer too???

Trish :)

Julie - one of my lot married a Harris whose family was from nearby Islip, although that was rather earlier, in 1787. I don't know if Trish covered Islip in her search for you. It's my only connection with Harris or Islip, and I'm afraid I don't have copies of those PRs to be able to look, but it's just a thought - it might be a parish worth checking.

I dont have access to those records either. But definitely worth checking.

EDIT. I just realised Julie has not been on Rootschat since 2008, so maybe we will not get any answers ???
