Has anybody access to records on 'certificate of settlement orders'.
My Cardingwell Gray had one after he married in 1728 at The Church of St.Mary Magdalene. Shabbington.
I'm trying to establish where he came from
Thanks

BFHS have published on CD an extensive index to poor law records. I'm afraid
your subject does not appear when searched for under Grey / Gray / Cardingwell.
Sorry!

If you are still looking for Cardingwell Grey you will find that he was christened St Mary's Church Doddington, Cambridgeshire on 27 April 1707. Father Richard, no mother shown. Would be interesting to know how he got from Doddington to Shabbington, Bucks where he married Elisabeth Gulliver. You will find his children were christened in Noke, Oxfordshire their records are available on line. He dies 1776 in Noke.
