Post by: millsie on Saturday 12 January 08 13:45 GMT (UK)
William Davey born approx 1826/27 to John and Mary Davey.  Married Eliza Lavercombe in South Molton on Oct 3, 1854 and emigrated to Australia 1855.

Seeking any information on William, his parents or siblings.

Hi Millsie

In 1851 William Davey is a Farm Labourer for Farmer Benjamin Yendle at Nadrid (?), South Molton. He is 25 and unmarried.

He and his parents are proving rather elusive in the 1841 census. Also , I cannot see a christening for him on IGI. Do any of his children's names give clues. What was his father's occupation on his marriage cert and did his parents also emmigrate to Australia?

will keep checking.

Hi.....

I cant find him either but the 1841 Cencus has this family

1841-Chittlehampton
Fringe ???(I think)

All b Devon

DAVEY

John 53      Ag Lab
Mary 45
George 13
Eliza 7
John 5

I wonder if 13yr old George could possibly be William...I cant find this George on the 1851 cencus so its a possibility especially as a birth cant be found for him either

Jane

1841 Cencus also has a William Davey age 10 in Bishops Morchard-Devon with parents also John and Mary.

Hi Jane and Deb,

Thanks for your efforts and information.

As far as I am aware, only William and his wife Eliza Lavercombe emigrated to Australia.  His children were Mary, Anna (x2), Henry Arthur, William, George, Eliza and Herbert, all born in Australia (except Mary who was born on the voyage and died soon after arrival).  His father John is listed as an ag laborer on William's marriage certificate.

I wonder if the family Jane found on 1841 census is his family but given that William would have been approx 15, could he have already been off working for someone else??
