Hi Ev
no it doesnt say anything about father that was one of the reasons
i sent for the cert to see but its just blank
I know this usually means he was an orphan but he had to have a mother
and i have tried everything but to no avail thats why im looking for his birth
place to send for his birth cert
I know he was in the Merchant Navy and was killed on board a mine sweeper
during ww2 his name is on the statue of honour in london
i do appreciate you helping me thank you

Yes thats him on the roll of honour
i thought about trying to go through his merchant naval
records but i dont know his number or how to go about it
he was a fisherman for most of his life  he was sent to grimsby
as an apprentice when he was 12 from the birkenhead union workhouse
but thats all i know about him

karen

i think we are sure about his marriage & death
how sure are we about the crew list and the workhouse ?
one born lanarkshire , one born birkenhead
birkenhead and grimsby are on opposite coasts
i'm just wondering if he was born in scotland if his surname might
have been BAILEY(various spellings) which is fairly common there
it could be that he never knew his parents  :(
