can somone help me please
after months of looking for my Grandfather in Birkenhead
i recieved an email with some information about him being on a crew list
on this list his birth place is stated as Lanark i wonder if
anyone could help me find him on a census or any of his family
i know nothing about his mother/father or siblings
his name is ROBERT BULEY born c.1879
thank Karen

Had a quick look http://www.familysearch.org and found
Robert Buley born 1881 death 1954 spouse Mary Francis Thompson don't know if this fits with any information you may have? :)
-
hi no doesnt seem to fit my granfather was
married in lincs to a lincolnshire lass but i suppose
it could be a relation
thanks for that
-
hi kazzam
was robert married to someone carter in 1912 grimsby ?
ev
-
yes he was
I have there marriage cert but just trying to find out more about him
my father didnt seem to know where he came from either
i think the subject was taboo
-
kazzam
the information was from freebmd but didn't have wifes first name
does the marriage cert. have his fathers name and occupation ?
i can't find anything for robert buley in lanark

Hi Ev
no it doesnt say anything about father that was one of the reasons
i sent for the cert to see but its just blank
I know this usually means he was an orphan but he had to have a mother
and i have tried everything but to no avail thats why im looking for his birth
place to send for his birth cert
I know he was in the Merchant Navy and was killed on board a mine sweeper
during ww2 his name is on the statue of honour in london
i do appreciate you helping me thank you

karen
have you seen this
http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=2796320
is this him ?
ev
-
Cant see any records on SP for that name
-
Yes thats him on the roll of honour
i thought about trying to go through his merchant naval
records but i dont know his number or how to go about it
he was a fisherman for most of his life he was sent to grimsby
as an apprentice when he was 12 from the birkenhead union workhouse
but thats all i know about him
-
karen
i think we are sure about his marriage & death
how sure are we about the crew list and the workhouse ?
one born lanarkshire , one born birkenhead
birkenhead and grimsby are on opposite coasts
i'm just wondering if he was born in scotland if his surname might
have been BAILEY(various spellings) which is fairly common there
it could be that he never knew his parents :(

Hi Karen,
On 1891 census in Tranmere Cheshire there is a Robert Buley age 12 b Birkenhead Cheshire
living at Birkenhead Union School. Hope this helps.
