Pick amongst the following from the 1901 census. You will appreciate that the information you provided [which is hardly all that you have, surely?] is not sufficient to really help you:

1901 England Census
Name Age in 1901 Birthplace Relationship Civil Parish County/Island

Arthur Sprosson 21  Islington, London, England Son  Islington  London
Ellen Sprosson 48  Islington, London, England Head  Islington  London
Ernest Sprosson 12  Islington, London, England Son  Islington  London
Frank Sprosson 26  Islington, London, England Son  Islington  London
Herbert Sprosson 28  Islington, London, England Son  Islington  London
Jane Sprosson 55  Cheam, Surrey, England Head  Islington  London
Lily Sprosson 18  Islington, London, England Daughter  Islington  London
William Sprosson 25  Islington, London, England Son  Islington  London

Hi Cougar & Hackstable.

Since making my original post I have found 17 Sprossons that definitely belong to my family and another 60+ who may have links to those in my family. I have been able to contact one living Sprosson who is just starting out on his family tree.

The data from the 1901 census is helpful and I will use it as I look into the 60+ I still have to follow up.

Thank you for your interest  - any further information will be welcome.

Stuart

Hi Cougar

I struck lucky - the name does not seem to be that common - and despite the fact it was recorded as Sproston in error in the 1901 census there were not too many names to look at. There are only 78 shown in Ancestry.com under the UK registration records with the majority appearing to fall into no more than three or four families. What is more they do not seem to have moved around the country  therefore it was relatively easy to follow them in the censuses.

No secret just good old fashioned luck.

Hi Stuart,

I know it was a few years ago that you posted this message. My Grandfather was Alfred Sprosson, I believe originally from the Islington area, my father William Sprosson was raised in Enfield, then got married and had 6 sons, we are now all living in Swindon.

If you get this and have any interesting facts about the Sprosson's then please let me know.

Thanks and all the best,

Wayne Sprosson

Hi Wayne

Welcome to Rootschat.  I noticed the dates on this post were originally
2005.  I hope you find some of your family and that the original poster
Stuart comes back on here again.

I think Stuart, if you are listening, what Cougar was meaning is that
we know that you were researching the family name Sprosson born in
different parts of London.  It would have been great to have some FIRST
names as well so that others could find the family for you.  More information
you give then probably more information you receive back.

regards Sandymc

Hi

"Can anyone help with details as to where familys are now." ?
We cannot give you the names of any possibly living people, is this is the starting point?

Marriage Sep 1893 Islington 1b 497 Henry Sprosson(28y) / Catherine Peters(20y)

Birth         Dec 1911 Edmonton 3a 867  Eric L Sprosson (mmn Peters)
Birth         Sep 1913 Edmonton 3a 957 Frederick J Sprosson (mmn Peters)

Marriage Dec 1935 Edmonton 3a 1743 Eric L Sprosson / Mary L Batson

Would it be fair to assume that at some time someone left for your neck of the woods?

Are you wanting a complete family tree?

Ray

Hi

We don't know what you don't know about your family nor of the circa 70 you "allude" to.
Add to that, Rootschat do not allow publication of people who may still be living.

70? How do you know that there are circa 70 people?
If you know who they are and that they (x% of 70?) may still be around
then why not use websites like 192.com / 1stlocate.co.uk / facebook / linkedin / "google" / etc.,
as a first pass to see if any are identifiable?

Regards
Ray

Hi, I am visiting Australia at the moment and thought I would try a search for my surname whilst here. I saw this and know that my ancestors also lived in the Islington area, so I guess we could be related somehow. All the best, Wayne Sprosson
