Hello Clincher,
Please accept my apologies for this late reply to your posting on Dec 1st, I have only just discovered it, I weas playing around on the site and happened to click on to where you can access replies for any postings, I had thought I saw any replies when I visited the board in the usual way, but had missed out on these ones, so sorry about this.
The information you have given re Ovington and the baptisms for Jervis, which I do know was the early spelling of the name, is of great interest to my son and myself, he had searched some years ago in the record office at Chelmsford for baptisms, but had not found the ones you have given.
Any baptisms are early, because later on Job became converted to the Essex religious group of the "Peculiar People" (now known as Evangelists) and they did not practise infant baptism, so we could use only the census to trace the family, which of course meant that quite a number could be missed out, possibly having born & died within the 10 years between the census information.
Any other details you may have come upon for them in Ovington, would certainly be very much appreciated.
Once again, thank you for your help and interest, and apologies for my lateness in responding.

Hallo, This is a busy time of year for lots of people for all kinds of reasons so don't worry about any delay- no problem. I can't add any more info off the top of my head but I'll get the file out later and have a look for more (if any). What I do remember is that there was a very strong link beteween Ovington and Tilbury-juxta-Clare (I think that's its name- not the one on Thames!!) and I'll check my file for that out too.
To save clogging up this thread I'll start a new thread on look-up requests whatever I find

Looking for HALLS in Chigwell, 1841, earlier and later. I have the census info.

To Mars Bar
Could you tell me anything
about the Peculiar People in Essex? When were they around, as I have a possible missing baptism in Witham in c. 1823 -5. Looking for John Evans but can only find a Jonathan Evans baptised at St.Nicholas, Witham in 1823. Probably him but maybe not.

Hi Barbajan,
I am all topsy turvy this morning, or rather it is now afternoon! I did not waken until late today just after 11am and its knowcjed me sideways for the day! I have numerous medications to take which I usually take around 8am, and now I have been "all up the wall" I thought, right, first of all I`ll check e.mails etc and then try and catch up.
I will get back to you a bit later regarding the Peculiar People, I have quite a bit of info on them, it is difficult tracing them when there were no infant baptisms, other methods have to be found, which after a lot of hard work my son and I succeeded in finding all the (well nearly all) the Jarvis family)
So do not worry, I promise I will get back to you once I have got the day sorted out.
I intended, (the path of all good intentions!) to have a go at filing all my papers etc and starting the New Year fresh with all my records sorted out, I`m afraid I used up so much energy yesterday in attempting this ammouth task, that`s the reason I overslept today!
My son has also been discovering some new leads on the family they had emigrated to Canada (I think to get away from the religious mania of their parents!) a part of yesterday and late evening was spent sorting some of that out also, and we must get back to that subject sometime again today. But, I will return to you asap.
Maud
