Hi
Here they are in 1841, 1851, 1861 and 1871 courtesy of FREECEN.

1851 Village of Lossiemouth. Parish of Drainie

Anderson Margaret, wife, aged 45, born Forres Morayshire
Anderson Marjory, dau, aged 16, born Duffus Morayshire
Anderson Elspet, dau, aged 11, born Drainie Morayshire
Anderson Robert, son, aged 8 born Drainie Morayshisre

1861 Village of Lossiemouth. Parish of Drainie
Anderson Alexander, aged 64, Blacksmith. Born Drainie Morayshire
Anderson Margaret, wife, aged 58, born Forres Morayshire
Sutherland Catherine, aged 7, grandchild, born Drainie Morayshire
1871 Village of Lossiemouth. Parish of Drainie
Anderson Alexander, aged 74, Blacksmith, born Drainie Morayshire
Anderson Margaret, wife, aged 63 born Drainie Morayshire.
There is an entry in the IGI for the birth of a Katherin Sutherland or Anderson, mother Marjory Anderson. However this is a submission not an extract and should be treated with caution.
You should now be able to find Alexander’s wife’s death on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk as you now know she survived until at least 1871. A quick check shows that a Margaret Anderson, maiden name McIntyre died in Elgin in 1884 aged 75 years. This could well be her.
Best wishes

Hi Carolyn
There are a few possibilities for the children of Alexander and Margaret showing on the 1881 census.
Who, in particular, are you looking for?

Hi Carolyn
There is a marriage of a James Anderson and Anne Murdoch 21/1/1865 in Elgin, who may be yours.
Also a marriage of Elspet Anderson and Alexander MacGillivray 28/12/1866 in Drainie, who may be yours.
You would have to check them out on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk to find out if they show the correct parents names.
No sign of Marjory or Elspet in 1881, which is a pity.
I transcribe censuses for Freecen. Drainie 1861 and 1871 are next on my list to do. I'll keep a note of the names and come back to you if I find them.
Best wishes

Hi Carolynderry
Has your Andersons any connection to a William Anderson b. c1820 Duffus, Elgin? The 1851 Census for Moray has William Anderson, wife Janet McPherson and family living at 18 North Back Street, Forres.

Looking for assistance!
I am looking for the death details of William Anderson b. 1821.
1851 Census indicates that William (30 yr) was born if Duffus; however, I only found one William Anderson bap 29/5/1815 Duffus to William Anderson and Margaret Duncan. Address: 18 North Back Street, Forres
1861 Census now at 23 North Back Street, Forres 40 yr.
1871 Census 23 North Back Street, has his wife Janet (McPherson) as a widow at 49 yrs.
I would like to try and find his death, so as to try and confirm his parents.

Hi Keith
Scotlands people have the death records, and using the free search they appear to have the death of a William Anderson, mothers maiden name Duncan, in 1865 Elgin. Aged 50, birth year 1815.
The certificate can be purchased for 5 credits plus 1 credit for the search.

-
Thank you Kirsty,
It looks like that this is the only death recorded for William Anderson, although his birth is out by 5 years with two census dates. I realise that the Census can be out, but I wasn't expecting it to be out twice.
I thought that William Anderson might have died elsewhere, that's why I posted the help! That baptism date is also the only one for Duffus, with one sister Helen. Witnesses to his marriage to Janet McPherson records Alexander Anderson farm servant in Alves, and Margaret Anderson in Duffus, so the latter witness may have been his mother.
Thank you again Kirsty.

Hi Kirsty
That death certificate for William Anderson says that he was single. The cause of death might indicate why he was single!!! (syphilis) or I still have the wrong William Anderson.

Thank you to those who have offered assistance. I have now located a death for William Anderson (11/4/1862) in Forres, age 41, married to Janet McPherson. This certificate also names his parents as Alexander Anderson,a merchant seaman and Ann White. Using Scotslandpeople, I have found the latter two married 30 Dec 1818 Draine, Moray.
If William Anderson says that he was born 1820 Duffus, then old Duffus would be in the Parish of Drainie.
Now to look for William's baptism.
Maybe 1841 Census for Alexander Anderson and Ann White may give me some more details of this family.

Hi Keith
This link shows some potential info on Ann White and her ancestors. Includes a death death that you should be able to verify on SP: www.avfsmall.ca/ghtout/gp24.htm

Possibly Alexander and Ann in 1851 - transcription a bit of a mess:

Ann White 50 b. Drainie, Elginsh
Ann Anderson 24 b. Duffus, Elginsh
Address: Cummingston, Duffus Moray

Thank you very much Monica and sorry for the delay in replying. It got to 1 am and I needed a rest.
Yes, I am now 100% sure that I and with RootsChat helpers, now have the right parents and grandparents for the Alexander and John Anderson, who emigrated to Australia. In addition, I have been able to trace two other brothers William and James Hector Anderson going south to Edinburgh and Glasgow, and maybe their sister Margaret not marrying.
Regards and many thanks

To Rootschat.com helpers
Thank you for your assistance.
My work so far is:
William Anderson married Janet McPherson 27/11/1840 Elgin & Forres.
Son Alexander (b.1841) and John (b.1845) emigrated to Australia. William (b1843) married Catherine Scrogie (1870) and settled in Edinburgh.
Son James Hector Anderson(b.1853) m. Jessie Ross (1881) and settled in Lumsden Street, Glasgow (d. 1928).
Daughter Margaret (b1848) not married in 1871, would not be surprised if Wm and Catherine raise her son.
Jane Anderson (b.1850) - I have not looked at her yet.
It would be good if I found their descendents, as a relative is leaving for Sco next week.
The Alexander Anderson (87 years old in 1851 Census) and Ann White of Cummingston are William's parents. His grandparents are Alexander Anderson (b.1764) and Margaret Badenoch; and great grandparents are Alexander Andeson and Margaret Collie (m. 1751, Kinloss).

If William Anderson says that he was born 1820 Duffus, then old Duffus would be in the Parish of Drainie.
No it wouldn't. Old Duffus is in the Parish of Duffus.
When the LDS were indexing the parish registers, they missed out the whole of the baptism register from 1820 to 1854, and the same applied to the SP indexes. SP have been made aware of the omission but I have just checked and it looks as if these baptisms are still missing from the SP indexes.

Thank you Forfarian for your reply.
I have a descendent of William Anderson b. c1820 leaving for Scotland on Sunday. Where should I advise her to look for his baptism?
The details that I have are:
Census 1851 137/00 004 /00 019 William Anderson says that he is 30 years and born in Duffus, Elginshire.
His death entry Statutory Deaths 137/00 0038 for District of Forres, County of Elgin 11 April 1862, confirms that he if the son of Alexander Anderson and Ann White, age 41 years.

There's no guarantee that the record of his baptism has survived, but I would recommend looking at the Duffus Parish Register baptisms 1820-1854. His descendant can look at this on microfilm in Rregister House, Edinburgh, in Moray Local Heritage Centre in Elgin and in the Aberdeen Family History Shop, and probably other places as well.

Thank you Forfarian for this information

The names you mention would seem to match with my family tree which goes back to the 15th century. I have all the certificates and details that were put together for matriculation of arms at the Court of the Lord Lyon. I would be happy to let you have the information if you are able to get in touch with me at (*)
