Title: Colwyn Bay Advertiser
Post by: Doggy on Friday 04 January 08 09:27 GMT (UK)
Hi

I'm wondering if anyone can help or provide assistance with my latest quest.  I've just come across some old photos and paper cuttings etc and one was paricularly interesting regarding my great uncle Charles Herbert JONES.  I have a copy of his marriage (to Winnie CHESHIRE) report in the Colwyn Bay Advertiser where it states that he was also the editor.  Anyone out there with any details about this paper, does it still exist or if not when did it cease to publish?  Any ideas where I could find out any other info.
I believe he was also the proprietor of a printing company called Powlsons.

Any help most appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Sean

Thanks for the Powlsons link.  I've sent them an e-mail to see if they have any company history stuff.
I wonder if I've got the name of the Colwyn Bay paper wrong as I can't find any reference to it on the net or on Genuki?
Hopefully someone might be able to put me right on this  :)

Cheers

I know there used to be a local paper called the Llandudno Advertiser - perhaps at one time there was a Colwyn one as well.

I know they keep old newspapers at the Colwyn Bay Library. they have excellent research stuff for local history. Why don't you email them to see if they can help.

Hi Titch & Hiraeth

Cheers for the info.  I'll give the library a try and let you know what turns up.

Anyone have any experience with Colwyn Bay Library as they never replied to my e-mail regarding the Colwyn Bay Advertiser?
Do they provide this sort of look up service or have I just got unlucky?

I think the library will be closed from 23rd February to ?8th March for ?refurbishment.

Have you tried the Conwy archives at Llandudno - I know they have copies of some of the Colwyn Bay papers there -

e-mail - archifau.archives@conwy.gov.uk

I went to Colwyn Bay library yesterday and they have the North Wales Weekly News (from 1880's I think) and also the Pioneer (more recent) on microfilm.

Hi Fox, am on it now. Got confused, but I have had one of those days. My Family Tree Maker went down and I thought I had lost everything. Was soooo stressed. Everything back on track. Luckily I had my tree backed on a site.  Just got a few bits to add to it. Will teach me to back everything up at least once a month. Laters, Mousy x
