Hi all, this here's a bit of 1841 and 51 census from Wales, an area near Dolwyddelan/Bettws-y-Coed. The Williams family is living at a farm called Beudebach? It rings no bells on Google, whereas the neighbouring farm, Penrhiw, gives 18,000 hits and 220 hits when paired with Dolwyddelan. So I'm thinking it might be something else.
Try your luck :D
Cheers,
China

Could it be Beudfach ? There's a lot of fachs in Wales!
-
I'm not sure of the second two letters, China - eu or a w ::)
Bwdubach/Bwdybach or Beudubach or Beudybach I've been looking on some maps but can't find it or the other farm :(
Have you found it on the 1861?

I think it's Bwdu (pwdu) meaning spout - so Bwdubach - Little Spout ::)
No - That means pout or sulk ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Now coming around to Bendybach but not sure - I can't think of any Welsh word that's Beu?? :-\

Hi China !!
I wonder if there were any deeds to the farm ?? ...... though knowing your luck - it's probably a welsh phrase meaning "house next to the farm" !! :) :)

I think it's Bendy Bach on the 1861 ;D ;D ;D
same n as in Tynewydd below!

Typed my interpretation in on google: bach farm Dolwyddelan - I've not heard of this place so I could be a little out... ;D
It's Beudy Bach Farm?
http://www.snowdonia-farm-cottages.co.uk/beudy.html
On this, if you type Beudy Bach Farm into Google Maps there's one Beudy Bach, Pentrefoelas, Betws-y-coed, Conwy LL24, United Kingdom - 11 miles from Dolwyddelan. I don't know if the link is the same place though... but typing the "beudy Bach, Pentrefoelas" into google shows up quite a lot...

Yes, Google "Beudy bach" and you'll get a number of hits - though whether any are relevant, I don't know.
"Beudy" means cow-house or shippon (I think!).
Oh, and does "bach" mean little, small?
"Little Cow-house"?
-
Hi,
Beudy means Shippon, Bach does mean Small. Probably why there's so many places with this name.. I think there's 3 or 4 around Bangor area because looking at some of the links all the Beudy Bachs look different!!

This site might come in handy for future decipherings:

I'll investigate this in the morning, Bendy bach makes sense, it does look like a y.
I might even have a photo of the place, i'm going to post it on the Caernarvonshire board. I couldn't believe my luck...I paid a dollar for a little old one-shot slide viewer on Ebay, opened a box of slides I haven't seen for 35 years and it was about the third slide in...
Here's a preview, many thanks everyone,
C

I wonder if this isn't a farm, but the barracks for those working on the new railway tunnel very close by.

I knew I'd read something about this!
Have a look at "Merionethshire look up requests : Williams- Old family Meirionieth"!
Best of luck!
